  There's Something On My Pizza
  (and It Isn't Pepperoni)

It's called "cross marketing." When a customer buys one product, you inform that customer of another product. Cross marketing can be a powerful tool when two or more retailers work together in synergetic cooperation. Here's how it works...

Bubba's Pizza Parlor is known for it's tasty pizza's. Martha's video store is known for its family movies. Bubba had an idea. He printed 1,000 fliers advertising his tasty pizza. He called Martha and asked if she would give every customer who rented a family movie one of his fliers. In exchange, Bubba would take 1,000 of Martha's fliers and tape them to his pizza boxes. For every flier Martha distributed for Bubba, he, in turn, would distributed one for Martha. The idea worked so well that Bubba and Martha became millionaires, got married and moved to a private island in the south seas. And, yes, I do write fiction.

Chances are, there is another business in your community who will cross-market with you. You may need to call a dozen or more before you find another retailer with an open mind, but when you do, it will be worth it! It's almost free advertising.

Bubba and Martha did make one mistake: Bubba printed 1,000 fliers and Martha printed 1,000 fliers. I suggest you only print 1,000 fliers for both stores and include both advertisements—each with a valuable coupon (5% off on grapefruit wax is not a valuable coupon)—on the same flier. You'll each get 2,000 exposures instead of 1,000.

I suggest you have your fliers printed on bright yellow/green paper. Keep it simple, easy to read and understand. The customer should know within 2 seconds of looking at your flier what you offer is all about.
