Beginner's Guide to Woodworking

To Build ... Add Some Power!!

When you have acquired the the <right woodworking tools> for the job and you're building your own <projects>, you can understand why so many people enjoy this wonderful hobby. It brings a satisfaction, joy and relaxation that few hobbies can match. And it's so much fun! But the best part, you don't need a membership to join!!.

The Work Place

No, we're not talking about your place of employment. But like your work place, to do Woodworking, you will need space to work in. Many amateur Woodworkers operate out of a Workshop while some use a part of their Garage and others use a spare room in their basement. Only you can decide if you have the space to host the tools and room to complete the projects. You may also want to evaluate the cost associated with your new hobby. Woodworking is an hobby for life, so you should choose your space and Tools wisely!!

Today there are portable and electrical hand-held Power Tools that one will likely need in their Workshop. But as a Beginner, you shouldn't be in a haste to purchase a group of woodworking tools that you may not use at first. Every tool requires a learning curve and you should take time to gain this operational experience.

The first hand-held Power Tool on your list should be the portable and/or the electric Drill.

The <<portable Drill>> has adjusted speeds so you're not only able to drill holes but also to attach screws. The downside is it does lose speed as the battery runs down.

The <<electrical Drill>> never loses its speed and can drill any type of wood without much effort.  However, it's not recommended  for attaching screws.

When operating either of those Drills, be careful not to bind the drill bit in the wood as the Drill can twist very quickly, twisting your wrist.

Always use drill bits that are for wood. It's not surprising how many people who know very little about woodworking, will use improper bits to drill holes in wood. Use only <<spade bits>>, <<forstner bits>>, <<brad bits>> and <<twist bits.>>Also while we're on the topic of bits, don't forget to buy <Screw Bits> for your portable Drill. The most actively used screw bit is the "Robinson".
