A FATHER'S ACHING HEART

A few years back I had a son
The apple of my eye
He grew so fast as I looked on
Was always at my side
Then one day when autumn fell
They called him off to war
Tho proud I was, I felt a chill
Deep within my core

Now all is gone- No more to be
Only what was before
Just a cold round medal for me to see
And a hole within my heart
His body lies in marble stone
With flowers by his head
And I cannot believe he's gone
Oh God! my son is dead
