Written for my Songbird, in gratitude for all she's given to my, all she's shared with me, and all we've shared together. She showed me how to love again, how to reclaim my faith and quiet my fears. She taught me how to trust again, how to believe in myself, and in another person. She has kept me safe and loved me when it would have been easy to walk away.
The Songbird
Once I thought that I walked alone
I had lost my faith as lovers often do
And to think that I said love was for fools
I have heard the lark over in the fields
And that love was just a memory
But a songbird followed me back home
And my love was waiting there for me
When the storm clouds gather overhead
But the songbird sang a note so true
That I knew I'd lost my fear instead
And that time would never heal these old wounds
But the songbird saved a prayer for me
In the twilight she played a faithful tune
And I've heard the lonesome whippoorwill
But the sweetest song is the songbird's
And I know I'll never get my fill
