All aboard! First, last, and only stop, Alcatraz, a.k.a. "The Rock." This island in San Francisco Bay held some of the most infamous characters in U.S. history while it operated as a federal prison. The island also served as a military fort and was the scene of a sit-in by native American's who claimed the land as their own. Today it's a tourist attraction, one can visit by taking a boat ride on the similar route as the infamous (and many more lesser known) criminals housed until it closed in 1963.
