It was a dark and stormy night in May of 1995.
As the lightning flashed, some people could just barely make out the form
of the Phoenix as it streaked through the night sky towards Chicago, Illinois,
where the mutant crew would be staying for their vacation.
As they streaked through the sky over Albany,
New York, Joss spotted some trouble in a mountain lake. Someone had
fallen through the frozen lake and were in deep trouble.
"Aye, caramba!" Joss said, "There's
trouble down there!"
"I'm heading down!" Alex said.
"No, you keep flying. Steve, Dan, Tod
and I will take care of it."
With that, the four separated from the Phoenix
and headed down to help. As soon as they landed, they knew something
wasn't exactly right.
"I'm coming, kid," Steve said, "hold
on... what the heck?! I can't fly!"
"Well, I'm going in!" Dan said as he
was stripping off his clothes.
"I've got a better way!" Alex said as
he landed and the Phoenix was turning into Cathy, Jess, Derek, and Tony.
"We told you to keep flying!" Tod said,
"Why'd you come back?!"
"Well, Cathy told me about this lak..."
"I'll take it from here," Cathy said,
"This lake interferes with most mutant's powers. That's why you could
land, but couldn't take off again. Since Alex has the Phoenix, he's
protected from the powers and can do the rescue!"
"Yeah, and I have a doozy of a plan,"
Alex said, "Watch!"
With that, Alex became the Phoenix once again,
but he didn't go too far off the ground. The other eight kept watching
as Alex used his psionic energy powers at the same time as the Phoenix.
Suddenly, there was a tremendous explosion.
When the smoke cleared, Alex was in a suit
of charged armor.
"What the heck is that!?" Jess asked.
"It's an E-frame." Alex said.
"Well, what ar you going to do with that?"
Tony asked.
"Watch!" Alex said once again.
They all watched as Alex launched the grappling
hook toward the kid stuck in the middle of the lake. When the kid
took hold of the hook, Alex reeled it in. As soon as the kid was
to shore, they saw who it was.
"Jubilee!?" Tod said in disbelief, "What
the heck are you doing here?!"
"I tried to follow you," Jubilee said,
"But when I got to this lake, I fell in. When I tried to signal you
with fireworks, I couldn't. That's about the time you flew over."
"Well, thank goodness we did. That water
must have been cold." Alex said.
"Yeah, but there's one thing I want to tell
you."
"What is it?" Joss asked.
"I'm coming with you, no matter what."
"Fine. Now, hold on, 'cause we're heading
out. Next stop: The Deadmore Hotel in Chicago, Illinois."
As soon as he finished saying that, Alex became
the Phoenix and engulfed his friends. They took off just as the storm
stopped. About half an hour later, they were in Chicago. They
landed in front of the Deadmore, went in, and walked up to the desk.
The clerk looked at them with stone cold eyes
and said, "Welcome to the Deadmore. You must be the Mutant Crew."
"Yeah," Jess said, "We are. Where
are our rooms?"
"Floor 13, rooms 13, 14, and 15. Have
a nice day."
"Yeah, what ever," Joss said, "You too."
They took the set of old, creaking stairs
up to the thirteenth floor. When they arrived at their floor, Steve
said, "This place is decorated rather odd."
"Yeah," Dan said, "It's decorated in
early stone age or late death."
"Whatever," Derek said, "The only thing
I have to say is let's settle in for the night."
They re - grouped and headed for the
rooms. As they were getting settled in, the lights went out.
"Great!" Tod said, "Now the power's
out. How can things get any worse?"
"They just said on the radio that there's
a homicidal maniac on the loose," Jubilee said, "and he's heading
this way."
"Well, we'd better go turn the juice back
on," Tony said, "and then we'll be safe."
The rest of them agreed and headed for the
basement with Alex in the lead, followed by Jubilee, who were lighting
the way.
They slowly made their way down the old, rickety,
creaking stairs, one by one being swallowed up by the blackness of the
power outage. The basement was large and very damp, with large puddles
of water everywhere and the constant sound of water dripping off the pipes
and walls were heard by them all as they splashed through.
What they didn't know was that the maniac
was in the basement with them, plotting out some very horrible demise for
each of the mutant crew.
As they passed the first intersection, the
killer jumped out of the shadows, grabbed Steve, and pulled him into the
darkness of the basement. There, the killer slit his throat and left
him face down in a puddle of blood and water.
The next person he got was Dan. He repeated
it with Tod, Jess, Cathy, Tony, Joss, and Derek. It wasn't until
Alex and Jubilee heard Derek's last breath that they turned around.
"Holy cow!" Jubilee said, "Where did
everyone go?!"
"The maniac stalks at midnight." Alex
replied.
"Repeat what you said, except in plain English."
"Oh, sorry. I was thinking aloud.
That maniac must have gotten them."
"Well, we can't s-s-stop now. We have
to turn the power back on."
"I g-g-guess you're right. I mean, we're
all alone in this dark basement with a crazed k-k-k..."
"Killer on the loose. I know.
Now, can we go?!"
With that, they ran the last twenty yards
to the power box. They quickly opened it and Alex was just turning
on the power when the intensity of the plasmoid induced light dimmed a
bit.
He turned around to see the killer dragging
a limp Jubilee off into the shadows. He hit the power switch so that
the lights would turn on. He than ran through all the corridors,
searching for his friends. He found them all right, all of them dead.
Alex heard a noise behind him. He slowly
turned around to face the killer. The guy had a knife and it reflected
all of what was going on.
Slowly, ever so slowly did Alex back up until
he was cornered. The killer slowly advanced, wielding the knife everywhere,
the sharp blade glistening like dragon's eyes.
"Hey, back off buttwipe!" Alex said,
"I'm warning you, I'm a deadly weapon.
"Heh, heh, heh, right," the killer said,
"and my dick's a mile long."
"I warned you!" Alex said as he let
loose the powers of the phoenix.
The fire burned like crazy past the killer,
turning him into a pile of ashes. When Alex made sure he was destroyed,
he let loose the Phoenix's healing powers.
After a couple minutes, the entire mutant
crew met near the stairs out of the basement. They discussed all
of what had happened while they were heading for their rooms. As
soon as they got there, the power went out again.
"Great!" Jess said, "It happened again!"
"Well, we're going to go turn the power back
on again," Alex said, "but this time, we're going to keep in total
mental contact the whole time!"
"Sounds great!" Tod said, "Let's roll!!"
They slowly walked down the stairs into the
dark basement once again, making sure they watched where they were going
and that they were in total mental contact at all times.
What they didn't know was that there was a
new nemesis in the hotel's basement and it was an ugly one. It was
the alien and it was very angry.
As the mutant crew slowly made their way through
the basement to the power box, the alien started to pick the unsuspecting
crew off, one by one. Alex could feel the mental strings breaking
as they died. As soon as the remaining four turned the power back
on, they saw the alien rushing right at them. Alex and Jess used
psionic shuriken, Dan used his elemental powers, and Jubilee used her plasmoids
on the alien and blew him clear into the next dimension. To finish
up, Alex and Jess used their healing powers to restore everyone.
On the way back to their rooms, Freddy Kruger
appeared out of the shadows and began cutting everyone up, but the only
fatalities were Cathy and Steve.
As soon as that happened, Alex yelled, "Run!"
and they all took off. When they reached the major intersection,
they stopped for a second.
"I have and idea!" Tod said, "There are six
of us and only one of him so why don't we split up. He can't chase
all of us at the same time!"
"Brilliant!" Dan said, "Let's do it
to it!"
"Ok, Split up!!"
At that, they all took off in their own separate
ways, trying to keep one step ahead of Kruger and his metal claw.
They continued to run through all the halls
and corridors until they make it to the final interchange. There,
they their stand. But what they saw shocked them.
There were six Krugers and six of them.
Alex used psionic shuriken to take out two of them. They all concentrated
on two more of them. With only two left, they merged into one extremely
ugly and horrifying creature, with two heads and two razor-sharp metal
claws.
They now double powered Kruger sliced up Tod,
Derek, Dan, Jubilee, Joss, and Tony. With only Jess and Alex left,
there would be big trouble.
"Jess," Alex said, "use your healing
powers to revive everyone and then get them out of here!"
"Gotcha!" Jess said, "Healing powers
are working."
With that, Jess revived everyone and got them
out of the building in under 2.2. Alex was about to get his butt
kicked when Dan ran back into the building.
"Alex!" Dan yelled, "I'm here to help
you!"
"I thought I told you to stay out there!"
Alex said.
"I couldn't leave you to die, so I came back!"
"Good! Now, use your elemental abilities
and take out the right head of that creature!"
"It's as good as done!"
With that, Dan summoned up a fire snake and
took care of the right head. Alex used psionic shuriken to take care
of the rest of the creature.
As soon as the creature was destroyed, Alex
and Dan ran out of the building. They regrouped with the others and
turned towards the building.
"Let the fireworks," Alex said, "begin!"
"Why?" Tony asked.
"We have to destroy this place in order to
be sure we're safe and others are safe."
"Oh," Joss said, "well then, let's get
it over with!"
With that, they all concentrated their powers
on the building. In only a few short seconds they leveled the place.
They then headed back to Newport, NH, by way of the Phoenix. As the
Phoenix flies, peace will remain with the Mutant Crew and where ever they
go.
