It had been over a month since the mutant crew had been broken up due to graduation and college.  Alex West, Cathy Hingston, Jess Philbrook, and Jubilation Lee were hanging out in Alex's back yard.  They were all major league bummed out that most of the mutant crew was going away.
     "I'm gonna' miss those guys,"  Jubilee said, "Without them, we're no longer the mutant crew."
     "As a matter of fact,"  Jess said, "we're no longer a crew, period."
     "Well, it's getting kind of late,"   Alex said, "let's hit the sack."
     That night, Alex had a dream.  Not a normal dream, but a PSI dream.  In that dream, Alex met with Dan Jensen at the old Butt-head's (Butson's) parking lot.
     "Dan,"  Alex said, "What's going on here?"
     "You're asleep Alex,"  Dan said, "you're having a dream."
     "But I'm not imagining this conversation, I know that much.  How are we communicating?"
     "We're doing this through a special psychic link.  Here's a message that tells you all about this."
     Alex took the message from Dan and began to read it as Dan walked off.  As he disappeared, Alex yelled, "Don't forget about our pledge to use our powers for good and that we'll be friends no matter where we are!"
     "And don't forget to tell Jubilee, Jess, and Cathy that I won't forget them."  Dan yelled back.
     Alex woke up after Dan yelled back to him and looked around at the other three.  He yelled, "Wake up!  I've got something important to tell you."
     "Yeah, what is it?"  Jess asked, "I was dreaming something good!"
     "Well, I had a dream!"
     "Big whoop!"  Cathy said.
     "Well, it wasn't an ordinary dream."
     "What was it then?"  Jubilee asked.
     "It was a PSI dream with a special psychic link to Dan."
     "Get serious!"  Jess said.
     "Ok, he told me, before I woke up, that he'd never forget you."
     "That's Dan all right!"  Jubilee said, "So, let's get back to sleep."
     Once again, Alex had a dream.  In that dream, Alex was in band with Steve Huff.  Steve was wearing brightly colored clothes, like he usually did.
     "Steve,"  Alex said, "You must be the second person that I share a psychic link with."
     "You're right Alex,"  Steve said, "You share one with me and Dan, so far.  You'll find ones with Tod, Tony, Joss, and Derek tonight."
     "Why am I having these dreams?"
     "You'll discover that your powers are growing to a powerful new level tonight and tomorrow we'll be reunited to fight a new danger."
     "What is this new danger?"
     "You'll find that out from Tod.  For now, I'll see you."
     "And I'll see you, too,"  Alex said before he woke up.
     As soon as Alex woke up from the second dream, he noticed the other three looking at him.
     "So,"  Jubilee said, "Who'd you dream of this time?"
     "Steve,"  Alex said, "and he told me that I'd dream of Tod, Joss, Tony, and Derek and that tomorrow I'll have more destructive powers!"
     "Anything else?"  Cathy asked.
     "Yeah, we'll be facing a new evil tomorrow as a team!"
     "Cool!"  Jess said, "Now, let's get back to sleep."
     "Ok!  Night."
     Once again, Alex had a PSI dream.  This time he saw Tod Whipple while he was walking home from school.
     "Tod!"  Alex said, "What is going on here?"
     "Well,"  Tod began, "a new evil is starting up on Earth.  A group called the Shi'arr have traveled across the universe to stop the Phoenix."
     "But I posses the Phoenix's powers.  Why are they after me?"
     "I don't know, but Tony might.  You'll see him in your next dream."
     "Ok, I'll see you tomorrow!"  Alex said before the dream ended.
     Alex woke up once again and told Jess, Cathy, and Jubilee of his dream.  By now they were truly convinced of Alex's psychic links.
     They went back to sleep and once again Alex had a dream.  This time Alex was in a cave with Tony Clough.  Alex looked around at all the darkness and started to get real scared.
     "Tony,"  Alex said, "What's going on?"
     "I was captured and thrown into this dungeon."
     "But why am I here?"
     "You're here to get some info and here it is.  Now you have to strengthen and test your new powers before we battle the Shi'arr empire.  You ready to change form?"
     "Fer sure.  Cancer!!"
     With that, Alex changed into a sword wielding super hero.  He sliced a door in the wall and the two of them quickly escaped.  They found a cabin a few minutes and ducked inside.  Alex changed back into his original form and Tony continued.
     "In your next dream you'll find Derek.  He'll help you to increase your power output even more.  I'll see you about noon tomorrow."
     "Ok, I'll be waiting!"  was the last thing Alex said before he woke up.
     As soon as Alex woke up, he told the other three about what Tony told him.  They said, "Noon, we'll be ready!"
     Alex told them to get some sleep and then went back to sleep himself and prepared for another PSI dream.  He didn't have to wait too long.  This time he was with Derek Taylor in his car.  They were driving towards Meadow park's playground from the high school.  Once they got there, they looked up at the sky to see a funnel opening in the dark clouds.  Through the funnel they could see another dimension.
     "What's happening here?"  Alex asked Derek.
     "This is a major test of your psychic abilities.  You have to use your powers to close that vortex."
     "Ok, here goes nothing.  Cancer!"
     "Pisces!"
     The two became major heroes and took to the sky.  Alex became the Phoenix and used his newer, more destructive powers to close the funnel and save the world.
     As soon as they landed, Derek told Alex, "in your next dream, you'll see Joss and a new person by the name of Cyril."
     "Thanks Derek,"  Alex said, "I'll see you around noon."
     Alex then woke up and told the other three of his dream.
     "Cool!"  Jubilee said, "so you're more powerful?"
     "Yeah, and you probably will be, too.  We'll find out around noon.  Now, I'm going to have my final dream for tonight.
     With that, Alex went back to sleep and had his final dream of the night.  It was about a field trip that Alex took with Josselin Tricot and someone who could help them by the name of Cyril.  Alex wouldn't meet up with them until later.
     Alex felt like he was in a role playing game and he enjoyed it.  The only problem he had was trying to get a higher level item while he was a level lower than it called for.  He spent an hour trying to get the first item back.
     After an hour or two, Alex met up with Joss and Cyril.  That was when the major questions got answered even before they were asked.
     "Ok,"  Alex said, "Now that I'm here, what am I supposed to do?"
     "You're here to max out your new found powers,"  Cyril said, "You have to do it before you and everyone else meets at the north pole tomorrow to battle the Shi'arr.  Your first chance to do it is now because the soldiers are here to capture us."
     "Go for it!"  Joss said before he was captured.
     "Here it goes!"  Alex said, "PSI Starstorm, Omega level!"
     A massive shower of stars fell from the sky and exploded.  Alex continued his attack until all of the soldiers were gone.  Joss and Cyril walked over to where Alex was standing and asked him, "How did that feel?"
     "That was a lot cooler than Lady Kyra's Star-Sword scream!"  Alex said, "I can't wait to go against the boss!"
     "You don't have to wait too long!"  Cyril said, "He's right behind you."
     "Quick, give me my power gloves!"
     Joss tossed Alex a pair of wrist guards and Alex slapped them on.  He then turned to the boss and called upon another PSI power.
     "PSI Fire, Omega Level!"
     A massive blaze wall appeared and surrounded the boss.  Within a couple minutes, the boss was toast.  Afterwards, Alex walked over to Cyril and asked him, "What are your mutant powers?"
     "Mine are very powerful,"  Cyril said, "Observe."
     With that, Cyril flew up into the air and became a mass of pure energy.  He molded himself into the most beautiful creature in the universe.  He then began a song so powerful that it caused the stars to scream.  After that, he landed and became his original form once again.
     "How was that?"  Cyril asked.
     "Awesome,"  Alex said, "I guess I'll see you in the north."
     "Yeah, we'll see you about noon."  Joss said.
     With that, Alex woke up.  It turned out to be about nine in the morning and the other three were up and around.  Alex caught up to them in the kitchen and told them about the final dream he had that night.  After he finished telling them, Jubilee said, "We'd better get ready.
     The four ran out into the back yard and gathered around Alex.  Alex became the Phoenix and took off for the North Pole.  One by one, the other members of the mutant crew caught up to Alex, Cathy, Jess, and Jubilee.
     As soon as they were all gathered in the North, Alex began to explain his plan.
     "Ok, we're all going to move in from all sides.  We'll hit them all at once and take them out like that!"
     "Great plan!"  Cyril said, "And while you're doing that, I'll get inside the ship and send them a little Newport greeting!!"
     "Ok, fine with me!"  Alex said, "Let's get moving!"
     As time ticked away, they prepared for their assault.  The time finally came.
     At exactly noon, the Shi'arr attacked.  Alex called on PSI Starstorm, Omega level and broke up the smaller craft.  The others began to blast away like crazy at the mother ship, but couldn't exactly dent it.  It was at that point that Cyril called in.
     "Guys,"   Cyril said, "I'm stuck in here.  Could you send some help?!"
     "I'm coming!"  Alex said.
     "Me too!"  Steve said.
     "Hey, I'm not missing this!"  Tod said.
     "And I'll follow you!"  Joss said.
     The four flew up to the entrance of the ship and entered.  They slowly made their way through the corridors of the ship, not aware of the traps that lay ahead.  Joss was the first to find one.  The snare flew out of the wall, capturing Joss's legs and one arm in the web.  Three needles on the ends of retractable arms came out and injected him with drugs.  It wasn't until the saw blades came out that he got scared.
     "Help me!"  Joss yelled, "Will someone help me, like, NOW!!??"
     "I'm coming!"  Tod said, "Hold on!"
     With that, Tod let loose an aura barrier that took out the walls and the snare.  Joss flew to them and thanked them.  With that, they continued their search for Cyril.
     They finally found him in the main engine room.  He explained to them that he'd set a bomb that would blow up the ship.
     "Well, let's blow this pop stand before it blows us!"  Steve said.
     "One small problem."  Cyril said.
     "What is it?"  Alex asked.
     "You can't use the Phoenix or the lasers will automatically lock onto you and fire!"
     "Well, hang on, 'cause I'm using my new powers to get us out.  Cancer!"
     With that, Alex became the super hero that he had become in the dream with Tony.  He then used his sword to slash a hole in the wall.  He then grabbed his friends and took off.
     As soon as he landed, Alex became the super Phoenix and took off once again.  While they were heading off, the ship exploded, destroying the Shi'arr and saving the Phoenix and the world.
     As soon as they got back to Alex's, they all had something to say.
     "Alex,"  Dan said, "We've missed you and we're glad to save the world once again with you."
     "Hey, it was a blast,"  Alex said, "besides, why don't you stay here in Newport so we could all save the world all the time."
     They all agreed to it and they partied on until the break of dawn, three days later.
