Chapter 3:
Prelude to the final battle. A Call to Arms.

Journal Entry - Alexander West
Daytime -  I know not the time of day.

‘Everyone is struggling to keep a positive outlook on our situation. I know how hard it is, since I, more than anyone, needs to keep a stiff upper lip. Using the remains of my psychic powers I’m linking with my computer and writing this up. I know that Xellos is involved in some way, since I can sense his power and his presence. Damned Mazoku fruitcake! He could get us out of here and yet he chooses to watch from a distance. Maybe it’s for the better, since he’s so powerful and will be able to help us in a battle. Celia is still out there as well, and she must have teamed up with Xellos since I can sense both of them together from time to time.
Lina is getting more and more desperate to escape. Her powers keep coming and going, even after Zel removed these damned collars. We figured it was from the shots they gave us. We’re all getting used to being naked, but being bald really stinks on ice. We all are finding it hard to break out old habits.
Ryoko has kept us updated on the latest developments in the outside world and such. Our parents think we’re on some kind of wonderful mission for the government. I know mom and dad aren’t buying this bullshit for one moment, and I doubt the other parents are. Yet I wonder why nobody’s done anything to get us out...’
Alex looked up from where he sat to stare into the golden eyes of the demon queen once again. She smiled at him and took a seat, crossing her legs in a very lady like manner.
“What’s the latest news?” he asked, shifting to a more comfortable position.
“Well, the sailor soldiers won’t be much help in this fight,” she said, staring into space.
     “Why’s that?”
“Well, they’re back in Tokyo and are currently doing battle with some new evil. Funny thing is that this new evil appeared around the time Tormaline returned.”
     “You think it’s his forces?”
“More than likely. He’s sick and twisted enough to do something like that. Even more so than Black X.”
“How do you know about him?”
Ryoko wagged a finger and said, “That is... a secret.” A large sweat drop formed on Alex’s head. “I talked with Xellos and he told me everything,” she added, “great guy, but a little too twisted for my taste.”
“Do you know the specs for the rest of the compound?”
Ryoko sighed and looked at the floor. “His systems are majorly encoded in that area. It’ll take me a couple more nights to get through all of the fire walls and such.”
“Well, thanks for the information. I’ll pass it onto the rest of the crew.”
Ryoko stood, patted him on the head, and left the way she came. Once she was gone some of the others moved in to sit around him. Rich and Dan were there, as were Steve Huff and Tod. Days had passed and a person or two would be tossed into the room, but more time would pass between the new comers. Lina sat with the group, no longer caring about her breast size, or much of anything for that matter.
“Earth to Lina, come in Lina,” Gourry said, waving a hand before the sorceress’ face, which held the blank stare that seemed frozen there for the past few days.
“I don’t think she’s going to move,” Zelgadis said, “that loss to Tormaline and having her powers inhibited isn’t going to help all that much.”
“But what are we to do? We’re going to need the sorceress supreme, the bandit killer, Lina Inverse,” Gourry said in hopes of boosting Lina’s spirits. His only reply was a weak moan from the sorceress. “You’re right, it’s hopeless.”
A loud crash from the top of the platform brought them back to reality. They turned to see Tormaline, flanked by more guards than one could shake a stick at, holding a very bruised and battered Ryoko. Apparently there had been some sort of fight, yet Tormaline didn’t have a scratch on him.
“I found this little wench,” he snarled, shaking the weakened demon queen, “hacking through my system files and extracting data, and she has an informant on the inside. Now, tell me who the informant is, or...”
The guards shouldered their rifles and took aim at the group below, smug grins on their faces. The people below moved towards walls and such in hopes of eluding their range.
“... I’ll order the guards to open fire on the whole.”
“You’ve lost it Tormaline,” Ryoko moaned, hate for the man in her voice, “you’ve really lost it. They won’t tell on their friends, no matter what you threaten.”
“Shaddup!” Tormaline snapped, slapping Ryoko several times, “Just shut up!”
Down on the floor Alex, Andrew, and Adderson watched this with growing anger. Their power levels began to surge towards the breaking point, goose bumps on the skins of others. Then something in them snapped when Tormaline began to impale Ryoko with an energy sword, her cries of pain filling the air.
“This stops here and now Tormaline,” the three said, magical glows surrounding their right hands, their power items appearing. Tormaline froze, shock and fear registering on his face. the three held their hands to the sky and shouted their henshin phrases.
     “Saturn Star Power!”
     “Orion Star Power!”
     “Universe Rebirth Power!”
     “TRANSFORM!”
A glow surrounded each of them, their hair regrowing, their armor forming with marked improvements. Their weapons appeared in their hands and they struck battle stances, all glaring at Tormaline.
“Tormaline, this ceases today,” Saturn said, spinning his glaive and pointing the blade in the evil agent’s direction.
“You can have her,” Tormaline sneered, throwing Ryoko off of the platform. Zelgadis and Gourry caught her and carried her to Amelia for a healing spell. Once Ryoko was safely out of the way Saturn levitated toward Tormaline, followed by Orion and Universe. The guns were immediately trained upon the three, and the guards looked uneasily at them.
“Release us or else,” Saturn snarled when he reached Tormaline.
“Or else what? You know I can’t be defeated so easily,” Tormaline said, grinning, “You know you cannot beat me, so why even bother trying? You don’t stand a chance. Just give up.”
‘That voice... is like Alleuro’s,’ ran through Saturn’s mind as he fought to shut it out, ‘he’s good. He’s strong too, but I think I may be a just a tiny bit stronger.’
“Just put down your weapons and surrender.”
“Not... on your... life,” Orion said as he struggled to notch an arrow into his bow. “Spirits of light, heed my pleading, leave this agent of evil sore and bleeding!”
He released the arrow, which struck Tormaline in the right shoulder, breaking his concentration. The three warriors shook their heads clear of his influence before moving towards the back wall to formulate some sort of attack plan.
“His psychic powers may be too strong for us to break from,” Universe said, still visibly shaken that he was almost taken out by the power of suggestion.
Tormaline’s platform descended to the floor a moment later, the troops marching out to try and grab some hostages. Mackenzie stood near the front of the line, using his Heatwave tech to keep the soldiers at bay. Yet all seemed to weaken after a while due to some reason or another, such as a lack of food or from the multitude of shots or whatnot.
“Guys, transform and kick some butt,” Orion shouted as he dove towards the soldiers below, initiating a tornado spin in the middle of his dive.
“We’re too tired to,” Lina said, speaking for the first time in three days, “no strength, no food, no magic, no power.”
“I think a golden boost may be in order,” Zelgadis called as he bowled some soldiers over with a rather weak Bephis Bring.
“More than likely,” Monet said, punching a soldier across the room, “We’ll cover you as you incant the spell.”
Saturn and Orion stood back to back behind the majority of the group, clasping their hands before their bodies and closing their eyes. Twin magic circles formed beneath them, Orion’s on the outside spinning clockwise, Saturn’s on the inside spinning counter clockwise. They then began to chant the spell.
“Where the twelve signs of the zodiac intersect a great power is locked away. Two hearts must beat as one to unlock this power,” they chanted, performing motions which seemed like mirror images, “Body to body, mind to mind, soul to soul, these two can unleash this power in a time of need. Golden lord who floats upon an endless sea of chaos, lend us your power.”
“Don’t do it,” Lina said, “the last time you cast that spell it back lashed and summoned the Lord of Nightmares into our bodies!”
“They have it under control this time,” Gourry said, putting his hands on Lina’s shoulders, “I can tell these things.”
A large globe of shining gold formed above the pair, floating above them before expanding in diameter. They simultaneously shouted, “Golden BOOST!”, the sphere above them expanding a little more before bursting into a fine shower of golden sparkles that covered all those on the ground, but only affected those who had nothing to do with Tormaline or his cause. Golden glows surrounded everyone who was bald and naked, their hair regrowing, new clothes and outfits appearing on their bodies. All of the lights in the room save a spotlight centered on the middle of the room flashed off. In that light stood Lina, Saturn, Zelgadis, Mackenzie, and Monet, each clad in clothes that were fancier than their old outfits.
“You thought you could contain us, but you were wrong,” Lina said, brushing some of her soft red hair out of her face.
“We don’t take kindly to how you treated us,” Zelgadis said, smiling now that his hair was normal again. He smoothed some wrinkles out of his tunic before adding, “and we intend to teach you a lesson you won’t soon forget.”
“Before you arrived my life was a happy one,” Mackenzie said, spreading his trench coat out behind him like a cape, the light reflecting off of the silver shirt beneath it, “now you’ve taken that from me and I intend to pay this pain back in spades!”
“I’ve seen worse, I’ve fought worse, and I’ve survived worse,” Monet said, tying her hair back from her face, “but you take the cake as being the biggest fruitcake ever.”
“And we shall punish you for what you’ve done,” Saturn said, running his fingers through his hair and shrugging into his armor, “Damn you for what you did to us!”
“You... how did you manage that spell in your condition?!” Tormaline said in horror since his guards were getting the crap beat out of them by everyone in the room who had some fighting experience.
Saturn smiled at him, which unsettled Tormaline even more. “We transformed, negating the effects of your shots. From there on it was easy as pie.”
“And now we’re going to punish you, you fruitcake,” Lina grumbled, standing atop the head and back of one of the soldiers who decided to make a last ditch attack on the group and wound up being shocked into submission by a Digger Volt.
“Just try it,” Tormaline said before laughing maniacally. The building began to shake a moment later, the walls vanishing into darkness and such. “If I’m going anywhere it’s to the Y-zone, where my powers will be greater than yours by a hundred fold!”
“And he’s taking us with him,” Zelgadis said, “that way he’ll triumph and be able to enslave us again... or worse!”

Outside of the complex the trickster priest Xellos Metallium and the beautiful half vampire Celia Chere Briggs watched the goings on within in abject horror.
“Xellos, we must do something!” Celia cried, grabbing onto the trickster priest and getting him in a headlock, “They’ll perish without our help!”
“I suppose we should,” Xellos replied, “the final battle is at hand, and we promised to be there for it.”
“Well, let’s GO!” Celia screamed into his ear, half dragging him with her as she sailed towards the complex. Xellos took them between a moment later, bringing them to the Y-zone with the others. What sat ahead of them was the final battle for the fates of themselves and of their world.
