It was spring. A busy time for most young people
,when love was in the air.
<Cassi: "Yeah, yeah, yeah, just get to
the story, will ya?!
You don't need to be so rude. I'm trying to
set the story
Cassi: "Well, sorry. I'm just so nervous.
You may continue.>
... and when students everywhere were preparing
for the annual prom.
"And this year's theme will be unicorns in
the moonlight," an overly perky blond said from the front of the auditorium.
"Blech," Lydia, Cassi, and Dawn said in unison.
"I can't believe they let Alicia be the head
of prom committee," Mina whispered to them.
"How many years has she been a senior?" Cassi
asked, pulling the band from her hair and running her fingers through it
before putting it back in.
"About three years," Dawn replied, "and she's
been the head of prom committee each year."
"And every year the theme has been the same,"
Mina said. In unison the four girls went, "BLECH!"
"Do you girls have something you wish to say?"
Alicia asked over the PA system. The four stood, looked at one another,
and stepped to the front of the auditorium, Cassi bumping Alicia away from
the mic with a hip check.
"Fellow students, esteemed faculty and staff,"
Dawn said, addressing everyone, "Alicia Silverman has been the head of
prom for three years straight, and each year the theme has been the same.
Why has nobody opposed her before? Why have we put up with her unicorn
headbands and corny music?"
"Because she's popular," Mina said, taking
over the mic, "and nobody goes against the popular kids, right? Well, it's
time for a change."
"We are prepared to become the head of prom
committee," Lydia said when Mina passed her the mic, "and we promise a
good time without all of the cheesy decorations and corny accessories."
"My headbands are not corny," Alicia said,
regaining her feet, rage building, "you won't get away with this."
Cassi took the mic from Lydia and said, "Girl,
give it up. You've been a senior way too long, and now is the time for
change." She turned to the student body and said, "Leave it in the hands
of Welling, Drolland, Lockheart, and Deetz and your prom will ROCK!"
Loud cheering and applause rose from the student
body, especially from the principal and vice principal, who were pleased
that Alicia was ejected from office. Alicia, on the other hand, was furious
with this turn of events, and was ready to cause trouble.
"What will be the theme of the prom?" she
asked, sneering at Cassi. Cassi glared back, fire flashing in her magenta
eyes.
"The theme of this year's prom will be The
Gravity of Love," she said, a spotlight falling onto her and her group.
"The colors will be pink, silver, and gold,"
Mina added tentatively. The other three nodded in agreement.
"We'll have food, an open bar of nonalcoholic
beverages, and a totally cool DJ," Dawn said, getting caught up in the
moment.
"And we promise this will be the best prom
in three years!" Lydia added. More loud cheering and applause filled the
air and the four took a bow.
"Well done," the principal said as she stepped
up to the mic, still applauding, "I will anxiously await the prom to see
how you have done."
'And I'll be waiting to see how I can screw
it up,' Alicia said to herself as she stepped into the shadows, flames
of revenge burning into her sapphire blue eyes, "I will have my revenge."
After school that day the four newly elected
heads of the prom committee sat in the local game center / snack shop,
enjoying fruit parfaits while discussing their plans. As they talked Crystal
Andreas and Michelle Kaioh entered, followed by Alex West and Dan Jensen.
"Hey y'all," Crystal said as they took seats
with the other four, "What's new?"
"We heard about you guys upstaging Alicia
today," Michelle said, "that was very brave of you."
"Thanks," Mina sighed, propping her head on
her hands as she rested her elbows on the table, "I just hope we can pull
this off without much trouble."
"Girl, we know we can do it," Cassi said as
she took a bite of parfait, a slice of kiwi performing a not so gracious
dive back into the yogurt, splattering the surrounding table with yogurty
goodness.
"So how much money do we have to work with?"
Dawn asked, stirring the fruit into the yogurt absent mindedly.
Lydia reached into her school bag and drew
forth a jewel encrusted notebook with the words Prom Committee embossed
in gold leaf on the cover and spine. She opened to a book marked page and
sighed for a moment, then gasped in awe.
"What's wrong?" Mina asked, "Don't tell me
we're broke."
"We're far from it," Lydia said in shock as
she passed the notebook over to Dawn, who also gasped in awe before passing
it to Mina.
"Holy Moses!" Mina exclaimed when she saw
the four digit figure in the book, "Please tell me they misplaced the decimal
point!"
"Afraid not," Lydia said, "according to the
records given to me we have that much money in the prom account to draw
from."
"But isn't almost $5,000 a little much?" Cassi
asked when she saw the figure, "How the heck did we get that much?!"
"Rollover from previous proms," Michelle said,
"Alicia was miss cheapskate and hired family members for everything, including
decorations, DJ, and catering, plus her mom did all of the headbands and
whatnot."
"So we're on a nice little nest egg," Cassi
said, "wicked!"
"So what are the plans?" Dan asked as a waitress
set a cup of cocoa before him. "Thank you."
"Well, the colors are pink, silver, and gold,"
Mina said as she finished her parfait, "And I'm thinking lots of balloons
in those colors."
"Would pale pink be O.K.?" Dawn asked. The
other three nodded.
"Crepe paper in those colors as well... and
lots of streamers," Cassi added, "also confetti and glitter and table decorations."
"And angel feathers," Lydia said, "like in
that music video we saw done to Gravity of Love."
"Right, angel feathers," Cassi said, "I could
do a mural as the backdrop for the stage."
"Anything we can do for help?" Crystal asked,
taking a long sip from the herbal tea she had ordered.
"Advertising," the four said in unison.
"I could help with that as well," the waitress
said, stopping at the table.
"That would be perfect Amber," Mina said,
her blue eyes meeting the green eyes of the red haired girl who stood at
the edge of the table.
"Could you put up some posters to tell people
about it?"
"No problem. I'll also see if we could cater
some of the food for you at a student rate," Amber said.
"Excellent," Dawn said, raising the remains
of her parfait to the sky, "a toast to us and our committee!"
"To us!" the others cheered, toasting them
by raising their glasses.
After the visit in the snack shop Alex caught
up to Crystal, who was lost in thought, and matched his pace to hers.
"Whatcha thinking about?" he asked, noting
the far away look in her eyes.
"Who to invite to the prom," Crystal replied,
still lost in thought.
They continued in silence for a few more steps
before Alex said, "umm... Crystal, would you... ummm... would you go to
the prom with me?"
Crystal stopped in her tracks, which was rather
abrupt since Alex also stopped and nearly fell on his face. "I... I'd be
honored," she said after a moment, "but only as friends."
"Right, that's all I had in mind," Alex said,
smiling now that he had a date to the prom who wouldn't want anything afterwards.
"I'll see you tomorrow," Crystal said, breaking
him out of his daydream. They had reached Crystal's house, and her mom
was waving to them.
"Right, tomorrow," Alex said, waving as Crystal
ran off.
Once Crystal was inside she hung her coat
by the door, left her shoes there as well, and ran to her room. She slammed
the door behind her, dropped her books on her desk, and launched herself
onto the bed, where she began to sob.
'Oh Alex, what have I done?' she asked
herself as she looked at a picture of her. It was only half of a larger
picture, since a muscular arm was draped over her shoulders in the photo.
'If he comes to the prom then you'll be hurt. He told me he'd never
let anybody else dance with me, and since we broke up all those years ago
each one of my dates who has danced with me wound up broken and bloody.'
"What color dress are you going to get?"
"What else? Emerald green."
"But Cassi, you always get green."
"Well Heather, what color are you going with?"
"Orange... pale orange and peach."
"Typical Heather and equally typical Cassi."
"Well Mina, what color dress are you going
to get?"
"Pale orange... maybe snow white. I don't
really know. Heck, I might even get a lavender or pale violet."
"On second thought I might get pale green."
"Then I'll get flaming orange, with matching
shoes and gloves."
Cassi and Mina sighed as they looked at all
of the dress colors and styles in the prom section of the store. Heather
went from rack to rack to find the perfect style and color. With those
three were Crystal, Michelle, Dawn, and Lydia, all also looking at dresses.
"What are we going to do? They're all so pretty,"
Lydia said, holding a dress of satin of a peculiar shade of red to her
body, "How does this one look?"
"I'm jealous," Mina said when she looked at
Lydia, "with the right hair style you'll look wonderful."
"Wow, really?"
"Totally," Michelle said as she began to play
with Lydia's hair, "we just need to figure out what to do with your hair."
"Try putting some of it up," Cassi suggested,
"like a top knot or a ponytail."
"Use this ribbon," Dawn said, pulling a long
strand from her purse. Michelle took it, pulled some of Lydia's hair up,
and tied it in place with the ribbon, tying that into a bow.
"Perfecto," Michelle said, "now with the right
shoes, gloves, purse, and accessories you'll be totally styling."
A loud sigh from another rack broke their
happy mood. They turned to see Crystal looking at a violet satin dress
with lots of black lace. She fingered it idly, not really paying attention
to anything.
"That's a nice dress," Dawn said, stepping
up to the rack that Crystal was by, "it'll look good on you."
"I know," Crystal sighed, "I just don't know
if I'm going."
"WHAT?!" the others exclaimed, drawing a lot
of attention to their group.
"Well.... I'm having second thoughts about
this, I mean..."
"Girl, stop right there," Cassi said, "this
is your prom. It's a super huge night of your life. You can't just not
go. What would your date think?"
"I don't want him to get hurt," Crystal whispered,
a tear rolling down her cheek.
"Hello, I'm sure your date can handle himself,"
Michelle said, "and if things get too hot we can call in backup, or kick
some butt ourselves."
"I guess you're right," Crystal sighed ,wiping
away her tears.
"Let's see how you look in that dress," Heather
said, "then we can figure out what to do with your hair and also find the
right accessories."
"O.K.," Crystal said, scooping up the dress
before bounding off to the fitting room.
In a completely different store in the same
vicinity the guys were figuring out what to wear to the prom. Alex, Dan,
Darren, and Will were in the shop, checking out colors, styles, and fittings.
"So, who are you going with?" Will asked as
he examined a nicely cut tuxedo.
"Crystal," Alex replied as he looked at the
colors for the tuxedo he was going to order.
"Cassi," Darren replied, checking the several
shades of green which the store had in stock, "I know she'll probably get
green for her dress.
"And I'm going with Heather," Dan replied,
"though I have no idea what color she would be getting."
"Orange," the other three replied.
"Go fig. So Will, who's your date?"
"Dawn and Mina."
Three pairs of eyes were instantly upon him.
"You're taking WHO?!"
"Well, I agreed to take both at the same time,
and they think it's a grand idea. Imagine me with two of the new heads
of the prom committee."
"No way. It'll never work," Dan said, "Mina
will trip over her own feet or Dawn will dump you for someone cuter for
the rest of the dance."
As they discussed their prom dates and whatnot
a quite muscular young man entered and inquired about getting a tuxedo.
As he waited for one which would fit him he looked over at the other four.
"Hey, are you guys going to that prom that's
coming up?"
"Hell yeah," Darren said, "it's THE social
event of the year."
"Any of you going with Crystal Andreas?" he
asked, flame flickering in his eyes. Dan, Darren, and Will backed away
from the newcomer.
Alex wasn't paying much attention to what
was going on, being absorbed in something else altogether. "Yeah, I'm taking
her," he said, turning in time to see a fist hurtling at his face, then
the floor rising up to greet him. The unconsciousness wrapped him in her
touch once again.
When he woke he found the shop keeper sitting
beside him, holding an ice pack on his swollen right eye. Around him were
Will, Darren, and Dan, all nursing assorted bumps and bruises. The shop
looked like a tornado had struck it, and there were a couple of burn marks
from what appeared to be plasma bombs.
"What happened?" he asked, wincing from the
pain in his face.
"That big guy dropped you with one punch,"
the shop owner said, "your friends jumped in to save you while I called
the cops. I heard two more thuds, a couple of explosions, and a third thud.
Then he ran off like something scared him."
"We tried to hold him off from hurting you
further," Dan said, holding an ice pack to his cheek, "guess we weren't
the greatest at defending you."
"That's not going to ruin my prom," Alex said,
the throbbing in his head increasing as he stood.
"Listen, I know you guys are some sort of
super heroes," the shop keeper said, "so here's what I'll do. You send
your friends my way and I'll give the four of you free tuxes and reduced
rates for your friends, on one condition."
"Shoot," Darren said, nursing a gash in his
forehead.
"Kick that guy's ass once for me. He was majorly
negative and giving off creepy vibes."
"Will do," Will said, saluting while holding
a large ice pack to his head.
The big night finally arrived, and Alex, Will,
Darren, and Dan had pitched in to rent a super sized stretch limo for themselves,
their dates, and some of their friends.
As they pulled up to the school Mina met them,
an air of agitation about her.
"Guys, I'm so glad you're here," she said.
"Mina, what's wrong? Why so worried?" Will
asked, "Your mom said you were here."
"We have problems," she said before primping
the hell out of the bow in her hair.
"Well, tell us what's wrong, or are we going
to die of suspense?" Cassi asked. Several people glared at her. "Sorry...
I'm nervous."
"Well, the decorators only did a half assed
job, the caterers aren't here yet, the DJ called in sick, even though we
have his equipment and music, and the lighting people broke something and
vanished."
"So in other words you need our help," Dan
said.
"Please? I will be so totally grateful."
"No problem," Dawn said as she poked her head
out of the limo's sunroof, "You, me, Cassi, and Lydia are in this together."
"And we want you to be successful," Alex said,
"so we'll help you."
"Thank you guys. You're all wonderful."
The warriors and sailor soldiers stepped from
their limo, all smoothing the wrinkles from their clothes. Added to the
already large group were Adderson, Michelle's date Chris, Alyssa, and Alison,
all nicely dressed for prom going.
As their limo pulled away a cherry red sports
car came screeching into the parking lot, racing at them at top speed.
The driver spied a large mud puddle near the others and increased speed.
"Have a nice prom!" Alicia cried from the
passenger's seat of the car as they drove by, muddy water splashing into
the air. To her shock and amazement the water turned around and covered
herself, the driver of the car, and her friend Denise and her date.
"You too!" Alex and Adderson called back,
their hands glowing from the reversal of the water.
"How much time until the prom officially starts?"
Will asked as he pulled out his cell phone.
"Half an hour," Mina said, breathing heavily
from panic.
"Gotcha. Dan, you're in charge of music. Start
playing something fast paced. Cassi, Heather, Dawn, and Lydia are in charge
of decorating. Adderson, help them with that. Alex, you and Darren take
care of lighting. Crystal, Michelle, and Chris are with me on catering
duty. We have less than half an hour to do this."
"Right!" everyone said as they headed off
to perform their assigned tasks.
Thirty five minutes later people began to arrive
at the prom, all quite surprised to see how wonderful everything looked.
The buffet table was set up, with Amber and her friend Tom taking care
of everything. Dan was at the DJ's table, munching on some pizza rolls
as he spun the tunes for the night. The disco ball spun, lights dancing
about the room in shifting colors thanks to the teamwork of Darren and
Alex.
"Remarkable," Dawn said as she looked around
the room, "we managed to pull this off without much trouble!"
"Even if Alicia did try to sabotage it," Cassi
said as she dragged a very mud covered Denise to their table and dropped
her into a chair.
"I had nothing to do with this," Denise said,
her mascara running from her tears. "Alicia was angry that you guys could
run a prom better than she could and wanted to ruin everything."
"But we turned the tables on her because our
friends want to see us succeed," Lydia said, setting a plate of food before
Denise, "Here, enjoy your prom."
"But... but..." Denise stammered before Cassi
stuck a piece of seafood casserole into her mouth. she chewed thoughtfully
for a moment before saying, "That's wonderful. You guys seriously outdid
Alicia."
"Thanks," Mina said as she approached with
a basin of shampoo and other hair care products. "Denise, if we hurry we
can get you cleaned up in no time."
"But what about Aaron? He got splashed too."
"I got cleaned up sweetie," Aaron said as
he pulled up a seat next to Denise. He ran his fingers through his pale
green hair and winked one of his golden eyes at her.
"O.K., I'll be back shortly," Denise said,
taking a few more mouthfuls of food before following Mina to the cosmetology
room for a quick pre - prom cleaning and makeover. Peace had more or less
been restored.
Following dinner came lots of dancing, some
slow, most really fast paced and upbeat. One of the songs on the slower
side was The Gravity of Love by Enigma, which was the theme song
for the prom, to which all of the couples glided over the dance floor.
Crystal had purchased the violet dress which she had seen in the store,
and had found shoes and small gloves to match. Her silver hair was pulled
up in a bun with two small braids hanging from it, a violet bow topping
it off. Alex himself wore a black tuxedo with a tie and vest of violet,
black, and gold, his ponytail nicely braided with a golden band at the
end. A small spotlight went from couple to couple during this slow dance,
and it seemed to hang for an extended time upon them.
"They get all the luck," Mina sighed as she
danced with Will.
"Let them have their moment," Will replied,
"Alex got decked the other day at the tuxedo shop for saying he was going
to the prom with Crystal."
"And the rest of us got pounded as well,"
Darren said as he glided up to them with Cassi in tow. "Then the guy ran
off."
"I just hope he's not here," Cassi said as
she playfully ruffled Darren's hair, "otherwise I'll have to whoop him
for hurting my date and his friends." Darren blushed.
As the fast paced dance music pounded through
the gym, several of the warriors began to get a sinking sensation that
there was going to be trouble. However, when they looked at all of those
enjoying the festivities they put aside their doubts and went back to their
dancing and enjoyment of the vast array of food they were offering that
night.
Alex was off dancing with Crystal, Michelle,
and Michelle's date Chris when he felt an intense charge of evil energy
run up his back. He ceased his movement, looking around to pinpoint the
cause of his discomfort. When he only saw other party goers he shrugged
and returned to dancing. A second charge ran up his back a moment later,
this one more powerful than the first. He whipped around, his long braid
in motion from the sudden movement.
"Where is he?" he asked nobody in particular
as he looked around.
"Alex, what's wrong?" Crystal asked, brushing
a few strands of her silver hair from her face, "you don't seem to be enjoying
yourself."
"We may have sailor business," Alex whispered
to her and Michelle, who had joined them.
"What? Here?" Michelle asked, straining to
keep her voice low. Alex nodded. "How?"
"Somebody is having fun at my expense, since
they seem to be a dark energy channeler, and they're using my spine as
a lightning rod."
"Oh joyous," Crystal sighed, "if anything
happens we'll get the others. You need to try to hold him off."
As if on cue a large, very muscle bound young
man approached. Crystal looked into his eyes, trying to delve into his
psyche and find out his intentions. The resulting charge of negative energy
nearly knocked her from her feet, and she leaned on Michelle and Chris
to keep standing.
"May I have this dance?" the person asked,
rudely shoving Alex to the floor before extending his hand to Crystal.
"No way," Crystal snarled as she regained
her balance, "I'm perfectly happy with my dance partner."
"Who? This wimp?" the person said, grabbing
Alex by the hair and roughly yanking him to his feet. Alex glared at him,
fire in his eyes.
"That was the third bad move of the night,"
Alex said as he dug his fingers into the sensitive flesh of the person's
wrist, finding the pressure points for release. Once his hair was free
he moved while still holding the person's arm, flipping him through the
air and into an empty table with a perfectly executed judo throw. Alex
smoothed his hair back into place before adding, "The first thing you did
wrong was pushing me to the floor. The second was moving in on my date."
"You little runt," the person grumbled as
he stood and tore his tuxedo jacket off, "I'm about five seconds from killing
you dead!"
"Obviously not an English major," Crystal
whispered to Michelle before they ran off to get help.
Alex took off his own tuxedo jacket and tossed
it to Chris, loosened his tie, and struck a battle stance for hand to hand
combat. His opponent struck a similar stance, the seams of his shirt looking
like they were about to burst from the amount of muscle crammed into it.
"So, who do I have the pleasure of squaring
off with tonight?" Alex asked sarcastically, his power level rising to
meet the occasion.
"The name's Hunter, and I'm one of Crystal's
old boyfriends," the person said, his own power level rising dramatically.
Alex arched an eyebrow before saying, "It's
no wonder she broke up with you. You're overly possessive and don't have
any manners."
Hunter grumbled something before lunging at
Alex, fists moving faster than the naked eye can see. Alex crossed his
forearms before his body, a light shield forming to take the brunt of the
damage. The force of the blows knocked him back a few feet, but he managed
to remain standing. In retaliation he dropped low and performed a sweep
kick to the back of Hunter's knees, nearly breaking his shin against the
iron hard tendon and muscle of his opponent.
"How did that feel?" Hunter laughed as he
reached to grab Alex's hair again. Alex dropped down, grabbed the extended
arm, and used his opponent's momentum against him, hurling Hunter into
yet another table.
"It felt quite good, actually," Alex said
sarcastically as ghostly kick boxing gloves formed around his hands. He
struck another battle stance, making a motion to Hunter to try to attack
him again.
"You're going to pay for making a mockery
of me!" Hunter snarled as he regained his feet and charged at Alex, his
own fists glowing. Alex blinked for a moment, amazed at the amount of power
his opponent could generate into his hands. Instead of taking him head
on, though, he decided the safest course of action was to defend for a
short while.
Executing a series of back handsprings, he
managed to carry himself across the gym just a few steps ahead of his opponent,
who was running at full speed towards him. Upon finding his back to a wall
Alex flipped towards the ceiling at a slight angle, used his momentum to
propel himself higher into the air, and flipped halfway across the gym
before landing in a crouch. A split second later several large globes of
flames dropped from his trajectory, striking Hunter with the force of miniature
tactical nuclear missiles.
"Fighter's tech thirty-four," Alex said as
he regained his feet, "Fire from Heaven."
"Alex," Cassi called from the entrance. With
her were Darren, Will, Crystal, Michelle, Heather, Dawn, and Adderson,
and all were still dressed for the prom, Cassi being in a pale green dress,
Heather being in one of flaming orange, and the others in more conservative
colors. Alex looked to see Hunter emerging from the flames, slightly charred,
but still alive and fighting.
"I'm coming," Alex said as he ran across the
dance floor, people moving aside so he could make a hasty exit. Hunter
plowed his way through the crowd of people, meeting resistance from Dave,
Ryan, James, and some members of the football team. Dave turned his head
and gave a thumbs up to Alex, who joined the others in exiting the premises.
Once they were outside Cassi turned to Alex
and said, "What ever did you do to piss that guy off?"
"I don't even know who he is," Alex said,
"but he says he's one of Crystal's ex-boyfriends."
"Would this be the one you dumped for being
overly possessive?" Michelle asked. Crystal blushed and sighed. "I knew
it, I knew it. You told me he said he'd never let you go, so why did he
choose now to reappear?"
"He said he'd never let me dance close with
anybody else," Crystal said, "I guess this is what he meant to do all along."
"Well, he's not going to get away with it,"
Will said, taking out his Centaur pen, "We're going to teach him not to
mess with the friends of a warrior."
"Then let's do this," Michelle said, producing
her Neptune wand, "I'm sure we can handle him."
"Onward to victory," Adderson said, taking
his Universe pen from his pocket.
"Henshin yo....." Alex shouted, hoisting his
right hand aloft, the jewel in his ring glowing. The others held their
power items aloft and shouted their henshin phrases.
"Star Crystal Power!"
"Universe Rebirth Power!"
"Cassiopia Star Power!"
"Night Aura Power!"
"Centaur Star Power!"
"Neptune Crystal Power!"
"Callisto Cosmic Moon Power!"
"Nebula Star Power!"
"TRANSFORM!!"
As Alex's transformation was about to initiate,
a large mass slammed into him, knocking him from the column of light surrounding
his body and interrupting him. Alex looked up to see Crystal's ex - boyfriend
standing over him, blocking all of the light from the gym and building
behind.
"I told Crystal I wouldn't let anybody else
dance with her," Hunter said, reaching for Alex's throat, "and she knows
that I mean business."
"Then let me be the first you didn't mangle,"
Alex said, a globe of light forming in his hands, "Lighting!"
A pulse of blinding light came from the globe,
distracting Hunter long enough for Alex to move away and join the others,
who had finished their transformations. When Hunter regained his vision
he looked around, blinking a few times to make sure his vision was clear.
At that moment Crystal kicked him in the face, sending him sprawling on
the ground.
"You asshole," she grumbled as she kicked
him a couple more times, "I told you it was over, and I mean it!"
"I will never let you go," Hunter said, grabbing
Crystal's foot. He stood up and flipped her upside down in the process,
"and this time I mean it."
"Put me down ya turdsack! I told you to stay
the hell away from me!"
"You heard the lady," Adderson said, striking
a dramatic pose from atop the gymnasium. Hunter turned and looked up to
see six people standing in the light, five dressed in armor, one in a sailor
fuku.
"You ruined our prom and now we cannot forgive
you," Michelle said, "so on behalf of the stars and planets..."
"We shall punish you!!"
"Guys, now is not the time to piss him off,"
Crystal shouted as Hunter tightened his grip on her ankle, her face contorting
in pain.
"Then now is the time to kick his ass," Alex
said, stepping from the shadows, his Saturn pen in hand. He held this to
the sky and shouted, "Saturn Star Power TRANSFORM!"
Waves of light washed over his body, dissolving
his clothes and turning him into energy. Bracers formed around his wrists,
the gems in these glowing as rings of ice and rock surrounded his body
on multiple levels. These shrank inward, flashes of light forming his boots,
pants, and the long sleeved tunic which he wore. An amulet in the shape
of a sunburst formed on his chest, and from that came a mass of ribbons,
which shrank inward to form his armor, utility belt, and hip scabbards.
One last ring of ice formed around his head, shrinking inward to form his
crown, his visor forming over his eyes. His glaive formed as he spoke his
introduction.
"Brought forth by the silent star, Saturn,
a warrior to protect the light. I am the silent angel, the warrior of death
and rebirth, Warrior Saturn."
"You're that little punkass I beat the snot
out of at the tuxedo shop," Hunter snarled as he threw Crystal over
his shoulder, "and on behalf of milady I'll stomp you into the ground!"
'Damn!' Alex thought as he rolled out
of the way of the charging mass, 'I can't do anything while he has Crystal
in that position.'
"Lemme go you creep!" Crystal growled as a
large crystal shard formed in her hands, which she cracked over Hunter's
head. The crystal shattered from the strike, yet did nothing to slow her
captor. She held the shattered remainder and looked at it in shock. "Oh
boy."
"It pays to have a thick skull sometimes,"
Hunter said, grinning evilly, "keeps girls from knocking me out."
By now the other warriors had joined Saturn
on ground level and were in the process of trying to figure out an attack
plan, and Hunter saw this as a perfect opportunity to squash seven bugs
with one charge. Everyone save Night managed to move in time, the single
warrior getting body slammed through the air and into a tree.
"Night!" Nebula shouted, producing her whip.
She lashed this about above her head, a circle of fire forming. She cracked
the whip through the circle, two streams of fire screaming through the
air. "Cosmic Fire Strike!"
The two streams became one large pillar of
flames, directed at Hunter. The behemoth sidestepped the attack at the
last possible second, the heat created singeing a couple of his hairs.
"Your aim really needs work lady!"
"How could he dodge?" Nebula asked in shock,
"My aim was dead on.... I couldn't miss."
"Neb, watch your back!" Cassiopia shouted
as Hunter came around behind and head butted Nebula across the clearing,
where she crashed into a rock, her armor reverberating from the strike.
When Cassi saw her friends treated like this she summoned her spear and
leapt skyward, a globe of energy forming around the spearhead. She dove
to the ground and shouted, "Queen's Savior!" as the energy was discharged
into the ground. Hunter dove out of the way as the ghostly guardsmen were
summoned, coming back up on his feet in time to use the momentum to send
Cassiopia flying to the ground.
"You guys are pathetic," he said, looking
at those he had already defeated, "Crys, you hang out with a bunch of total
losers!"
"They're not losers you meathead," Crystal
grumbled as she managed to kick Hunter in the nose. The behemoth flung
her to the ground as he tended his wound.
"You bitch! How dare you fight back against
me!" he grumbled, leaping into the air to perform a body press. Saturn
managed to dive in from the side, grab Crystal, and get her out of the
way before he was flattened by over a ton of force.
"Alex!" Crystal cried when she saw her ex-boyfriend
flatten her friend into the ground. She glared at Hunter, fire flashing
in her eyes as she summoned her spear.
"You turdsack! You asshole! You jackass! You
flattened my prom date!" she growled, stepping towards Hunter, who was
in the process of wiping some of Alex from his shirt. "On behalf of Callisto
you will NOT be walking away from here!"
She spun her spear above her head, the spearhead
glowing. She drove it into the ground, energy and lightning crackling through
the air, centering around the sphere. She shouted, "Crystal Rain!" as the
sky darkened over, razor sharp crystals raining down upon Hunter.
From the crater where Hunter had impacted
came a shout of, "Mega Brando!" The ground beneath Hunter buckled and exploded,
launching him skyward. From the crater came a somewhat squashed Alex, an
evil grin on his face.
"You decked my in the tuxedo store, you used
my spine as a lightning rod, you ruined my prom, then to top it off you
tried to squash my date and wound up crushing me," he grumbled, the jewels
in his bracers glowing. He crossed his arms before his body, his palms
set so the heels were together. A globe of ice energy formed before his
palms, which split into multiple rings that hovered near his body on multiple
levels. He held his hands to the sky, the rings orbiting his body.
"Ice Ring Strike!"
The rings centered before his body before
sailing at Hunter, striking him repeatedly with fast moving rings of ice
and rock.
"I'll kill you dead yet!" Hunter said, a globe
of dark energy forming in his hand. "Hell's Wrath!"
"Heaven's Arrow!"
An arrow of pure light pierced the globe of
darkness, causing it to disintegrate and explode simultaneously. Hunter
looked around for the source, finding Warrior Centaur with his bow drawn,
a second holy arrow notched.
"My mirror will reveal the truth to us about
you," Sailor Neptune said, holding up her deep aqua mirror, the reflective
surface shining. "Submarine Reflection."
She turned the mirror towards Hunter, a generous
amount of water pouring forth from the surface to surround him. Hunter
cried out in pain as dark energy flowed from his body, forming a cocoon,
changing his shape to that of a negaverse youma.
"What in the nine hells?!" Nebula exclaimed,
"Callisto, what the hell were you dating?!"
"I wish I knew," Crystal replied, "but even
I have trouble figuring things out at times."
"Prepare to die!" the youma said as the surrounding
area began to shake, "I'm going to overload this place with dark energy
and watch it explode."
"No you're not," Warrior Universe said, his
fists glowing as he surrounded the youma in a bubble, "Gravity Flip!"
The bubble rose from the ground and sailed
towards the open air. As Universe struggled to maintain the bubble he turned
to Neptune and said, "Is he still human or is he all youma?"
"Checking on it," Neptune said, gazing into
her mirror. Hunter's frightened face flashed onto the surface, overlaid
by the youma's face. "He's still human, but I can't pinpoint what is causing
this difficulty."
"His class ring," Alex said, his computer
visor glowing, "aim for the large ring on his left hand."
"With what?" Night asked, "If we release him
from the bubble he'll blast us."
"Use a whirlwind," Cassiopia said, "then Centaur
and Callisto can aim for the target."
"O.K.," Night said, a small tornado forming
between his palms. He lobbed this into the air and shouted, "Star Solar
Winds!"
A whirlwind erupted in the sky beneath the
youma, engulfing him and keeping him from the ground so that Universe could
disperse his bubble. Callisto and Centaur then took careful aim with their
choicest attacks and let fly.
"Star Missile!"
"Heaven's Arrow!"
The crystal shard and the arrow of holy power
struck the ring on the youma's left hand, shattering it instantly. The
youma instantly reverted back to Hunter's true form, which plummeted to
the ground. Universe and Saturn moved in to catch him, pooling their powers
to give him a soft landing.
"Hunter," Crystal said after all had returned
to their mortal forms, "Hunter, how do you feel?"
"Crys?" Hunter asked as he sat up, wincing
from the throbbing pain in his head, "What happened? Where am I?"
"Welcome back to the land of the unpossessed
and unobsessed," Cassi said, smiling at him.
Hunter looked at the people around him, then
at Crystal. "Crys, I only recall a few things from the past few days, and
if I did anything stupid then I am truly sorry. I don't know what came
over me."
"I'm just glad you're back to normal," Crystal
said, giving him a hug. She stood and said, "Hunter Greenman, I'd like
to introduce you to my friends Cassi, Will, Adderson, Michelle, Darren,
and Alex. Guys, this is Hunter... the real Hunter."
"Well, now that all this is taken care of,
let's head back to the prom," Cassi said, "they'll be announcing prom queen
and king soon."
"And now for the moment you've been waiting
for. The announcement of the prom queen and king and their court," Dan
said over the PA system as the vice principal handed him an envelope. "Thank
you madam VP. You look lovely tonight." He opened the envelope and said,
"We'll start with the queen's court first."
"Prepare to lose girls," Alicia said as she
stepped up to the four coordinators and their friends with some of her
girls, "We always get court and queenship."
"Give it a rest Alicia," Denise said, "you
missed some mud in your hair."
"What?!" Alicia cried as she tore at her hair,
making it worse, "Oh my god! This is so unfair!"
"Third princess is Cassi Droland. Second princess
is Dawn Welling. First princess is Lydia Deetz. Congratulations girls."
"I'm so happy for you guys," Denise said,
giving a giant grin to the three who were making their ways to the main
dance floor.
"Third prince is Adderson Martin. Second prince
is Darren Wilder. First prince is... well, it's me, Dan Jensen. Wow, I
feel honored!"
"You go for it guys," Dave shouted, whooping
it up for everyone.
"And before I join the others on the floor
I'll announce the queen... or make that queens, which is a first. Give
a big hand for Mina Lockheart and Crystal Andreas!"
Loud cheering and applauding followed the
announcement of the two queens. Mina and Crystal joined hands as they dashed
onto the dance floor, spotlights illuminating them.
"And now for the announcement of the king...
make that kings, since yet again we have two. Will Arrowney an Alexander
West, come on down and join the party!"
More applauding and cheering followed as Will
and Alex approached the dance floor to accept their crowns. Hunter took
over the mic to make the final announcement as Dan went to accept his sash
and dance with Lydia.
"Now the kings and their queens will have
their dance, followed by the court joining them," he said, "and their song
will be The time of My Life from the movie Dirty Dancing.
Congratulations you lucky guys and gals. Enjoy the dance."
<As the music plays, the camera pans around
the dance floor, pulling in for close up portraits of each of the couples.
Crystal had her head resting on Alex's shoulder, causing him to blush.
Dan and Lydia were getting down to the music. Mina kept stepping on Will's
toes, yet somehow they managed not to kill each other. Cassi and Adderson
glided over the dance floor, lost in the moment. Finally, Dawn and Darren
wound up bumping into almost everyone on the floor.>
When the kings, queens, and their court finished
their first dance everyone applauded them. From the sideline Alicia booed
them, only to find herself covered in chocolate ice cream by her so called
friends who were tired of her trying to put down people who made their
prom way better than any in the last three years. As she ran off in tears
Denise gave a wink and thumbs up to everyone in the court, who returned
the sign.
"That was amazing," Hunter said when he stepped
down from the DJ's booth, "you guys were amazing."
"Thanks," Crystal said, bowing to him. Hunter
blushed. She turned to Alex and said, "Would you mind if I have a slow
dance with Hunter?"
"Not at all, "Alex said, "go and have a ball."
"Thanks," Crystal said, taking Hunter's hand
and leading him to the dance floor.
As they danced Darren and Will walked up to
Alex and put their hands on his shoulders.
"Dude, that was a nice thing you did for Crys,"
Will said.
"Well, technically we did," Darren said, correcting
his friend.
"We gave her back the old Hunter, not the
jerk she broke up with," Alex said, "and I'm glad we did what we did."
"You're not jealous?" Will and Darren said
in unison.
"Not one bit," Alex said as he watched Hunter
and Crystal dance, "we're good friends sure, but not a couple. However,
I would promise her everything if she asked for it. I'd promise her the
world."

The End
Cassi: "Wow.... my first really big part in a fic. I had such a blast!"
Mina: "We had fun, didn't we?"
Heather: "I actually got a good part for once! I love proms!"
Will: "Glad you guys enjoyed yourselves. I sure did."
So all of you liked this?
All: "Hell yeah!"
Then I'm glad I wrote it. It was fun, thinking of my proms - Senior prom, Jess' junior prom, the prom social in my dorm...
Cassi: "Which was what inspired you to write this, right?"
Absolutely correct. And I wrote it in such a short amount of time it's frightening.
Lydia: "But it looks good, and you wrote from your heart."
*blushing* Guess I did. However...
Heather: "You wrote it during class, didn't you?"
Yeah.... usually in my English classes and band rehearsal.
Dawn: "You WHAT?! Did you even pay attention in class?!"
Well, yeah, sort of.
*Dawn grabs the author and drags him to the library in order to study, study, STUDY as the others look on in shock*
Will: "Well, looks like this is the end."
*the others wander off to see if they can save the author from Dawn.*
