The Student Conservation Association

The Student Conservation Association provides the oppurtunity for volunteers to work hard at work worth doing, preserving the country's public lands. SCA has placed more than 30,000 volunteers in our national parks, forest, wildlife refuges, and other public lands. SCA volunteers patrol Mt. McKinley at Denali National Park in Alaska, protect endangered sea turtles on Sanibel Island in Florida, repair damaged to the flooded C&O Canal in the District of Columbia, and maintain trails in the backcountry of Yosemite National Park in California.

Each year 2,500 volunteers aged 16 and older are fielded at natural resource management sites throughout the country.

  • SCA has programs for 16 - 18 year olds that last 5 weeks.
  • For adults of any age programs that last 12 weeks to 1 year.
  • There is also a program for inner - city youth interested in conservation as a career.

SCA also publishes a monthly magazine which includes job listings, career advise, and networking information for those seeking a career in conservation.
