June Meeting Notes:

Summer and Rosemary! What a heavenly combination! We listened as Jane told the glorious tales of Rosemary's past, its colorful folklore full of stories of "remembrance". She told us how Rosemary was given at weddings and funerals for remembrance and how scholars would weave it about their brow in hopes that its reputed qualities would help them in their lessons. (She even borrowed this suggestion by weaving a sprig in her hair to help her get through the presentation!!) We learned that in the Mediterranean, where Rosemary comes from, Rosemary grows to enormous heights. We laughed as we thought of our own puny plants that struggle just to make it to houseplant size!! Loaded up with recipes to try, she gave the floor to Allison who spoke of the artful side of Rosemary; Rosemary Topiary. A beautiful craft, we found that making the actual topiary is not as difficult as keeping the tropical Rosemary alive here in the north. Allison suggested trying our hand at ivy topiaries for more success. She showed us how to make a wire frame from sturdy wire or coat hangers and twist the ivy or Rosemary sprigs around it. As Allison explained, with good solid trimming and time, you can have a lovely decorative plant.

Our refreshments choices seemed endless at our July meeting! Bergamot Tea was served by Sheryl Gagne, home brewed Ginger Beer was served by Cecile Lefebvre and Rosemary Lemonade was brought by Jill Lowell. Jill also brought Rosemary Bruschetta, while Cecile served a wonderful quiche and Jane dished up Rosemary Pound Cake and Angel Cake with Strawberries. Ohh what treasures!

A Note from Jill:

I have finally discovered that when I take on too many projects (a passion of mine) I end up feeling like nothing gets done well enough. In an effort to streamline my life a bit I've decided to cut back on this newest project, the Herb Connection website. Luckily, it hasn't been going long enough for anyone to miss things too awful much!! Maybe someday I'll bring it to it's glory once again but for now I will just be posting a few notes from the meetings and recipes.

Thanks!

Jill
