November/December

Our November meeting was alive with scents and sights! Talented members demonstrated wonderful crafts for us to make for the holidays. Snowmen hung on cinnamon stick arms, adorable angels, a luscious holiday cheese ball, yummy brownies mix in a jar, a delicate rosebud pomander and a tiny tussie mussie, kitchen potpourri in little jars, a decorative (and useful!) herb decked wooden spoon, painted tin buckets, lip-smacking candy bark, and mouth-watering jams and salsa's all were demonstrated with finesse! But we all wondered, with all these ideas, has anyone got the time??

Our friendship potpourri was nothing short of amazing! Into the giant bucket went cinnamon sticks, rhododendron leaves, oak moss, rosehips, dried apples and oranges, cloves, allspice, roses, calendula, lemon verbena, artemesia, and more. Lastly, we stirred in the fixative scented with our spicy fragrance oil. Divided up to take home we were all thrilled with our handsome treasure.

This delectable punch was enjoyed by all at our November meeting:

Hot Spiced Cranberry Punch
Serves 12
2 lemons, sliced thickly
24 whole cloves
3 pints cranberry juice
1 pint lemonade
1/2 teaspoon each ground cloves, cinnamon & allspice
1 cup sugar or honey
12 cinnamon stick swirlers

Stud the lemon slices with whole cloves to float on top of punch. Simmer all other ingredients for 15 minutes. Serve in 2-quart punch bowl, or deep chafing dish or crock-pot to keep warm. Offer cinnamon sticks as swirlers.
