And cooked a pretty good dinner of Chicken and Pasta. I was glad I hadn’t moved in with a TV dinner type of dad.
“So what have you been up to?” He asked
“Nothing much, School, “
“Oh, yeah, I am really sorry about Calista. I mean don’t know if your mother understands that she was my daughter too. But that’s your mother.” All I could do was nod. I didn’t want my tears to spill out over my cheeks.
“How are you about it?” He had to ask.
“Not to good” Was all I could manage to say. “ I miss her”
“Oh, Well I am sorry, but I am glad that we can finally spend some time together, I know I never saw you as a kid, but I still missed being with you. I really did want to get to know you kids more, but your mother would have nothing of it.” That got my attention, I always thought that Dad never wanted to see us, maybe she was lying to us all along,.
“Mom said you never called, and didn’t want anything to do with us…” I trailed off.
“Well mom probably says a lot of stuff that isn’t true” I just nodded again then got up from the table.
“May I be excused?”
“Sure”
“Do you want me to help out, ya know do the dishes or something?” I asked
“No that’s fine, you can do whatever, by the way did the boys come over and do the stuff I asked?”
“Yeah they did, they are nice” I said waking upstairs to my bedroom and picked up the phone and dialed Zeke’s number hoping he would be home. It rang 3 times then his mother picked up.
“Hello?”
“Hi, this is Alyssa, Is Zeke home?”
“No sorry dear he isn’t, is there a message?”
“Umm… Can you just tell him I am calling from my dads and the number is 918-446-8254?”
“Yes I can, Bye”
“Bye” I said hanging up the line. I sighed and lay back on my bed. Now seemed like a decent time to unpack something. I got up and walked over to a box and opened it. Junk. Next box, Clothes. Ok I will move stuff first. I moved my bed over a bit so it was pushed up against the bay window. I could use the windowsill as a bedside table. I put my dresser over on the other end of the room next to the door. I put my desk over on the 3rd wall that didn’t lead into the bathroom. And my bookshelf next to it my desk. I stood back and looked at it. It was a pretty big room, bigger then my last room, so this one would have more walking space. I liked it. And I was honestly beginning to think that I was going to like it here. Someone knocked on my door.
“Come in”
“Yeah, I enrolled you into school before you came, but I didn’t get a chance to tell you, it is 3 blocks away so you don’t need to take a bus, but you should be getting a car soon so you can drive instead of walk. It starts at 7:30 but you might want to go early to get your schedule”
“Oh, ok that’s cool, I will set my alarm Thanks” I said as he was shutting the door. Well now I have something to do with myself, and something that gives me a reason to go to bed earlier then midnight. I took a shower and changed into some flannel pants and a tank top and slid between the sheets of my bed and set my alarm for 6am. Hoping I was ready for this. Oh well, you never know until you try.

Main Page
Chapter 6
