Older dogs have special needs when it comes to grooming. I know that sometimes people feel that they would rather not bring their older dog to the groomer. But they need attention just as much if not more so than the young ones.

• They develop tumors that sometimes their regular groomer can detect before they grow too large.
• They can develop skin problems, everything from allergies to just greasy skin.
• They need regular nail trimmings because I know when I'm the equivalent of 98 years old or so, I probably won't get as much exercise as I used to. Walking on cement and hard surfaces helps to wear down the nails, not having them cut can lead to undo stress put on the joints. Arthritis may have already set in so we need to do what little we can to help.
• QUICK TIP ~ Most older dogs tend to get arthritic, in order to put a little less stress on their bones when they are eating, place their food or water dish on a step or something so that they do not have to strain down to reach. They have feeders that can be raised or lowered, but you can just as easily put a dish on a shoe box or even an over turned laundry basket depending on the height of the dog.
