Meet Basil

Basil and his sister Blaze started life on April 8, 1992 in Riverside, CA. He was one of 5. The people who gave them to us, said they had picked out the 2 best out of the litter, and they were right.

His mom was a beautiful tawny Briard and his dad was a huge Black Lab. Basil's sister (Blaze) took after their dad, but he took after mom, picking up the double dew claws and stubborn disposition of the Briard. He did, however, grow to be as big as his father.

I can't begin to write how he affected our life. He was brave and compassionate. He was our child. With his tail of destruction and his teeth of iron, he would constantly make playtime a workout. Getting his ball away from him was virtually impossible, because it was always imbedded on his front tooth. Tug of war was another game at which he excelled, because he would pull harder than us! The greeting at the gate was always a Baskervillian yodel and a big, furry hug.

On January 10, 2000 our world came crashing down with the news that Basil had lymphosarcoma. Cancer. Although Dr. Judy did everything he could, it just wasn't enough to help. On Friday, November 24, 2000, my husband Glenn and I said our final farewells.

Basil was a great dog. He may never have been a showdog or obedience champion, but he was much, much more than that, he was our dog.

We will miss you. Until we meet again, have fun playing with the other dogs, you big bazooka dog, you. Click here to write to Basil's family
