BooBoo was the ultimate gentleman -- as long as you didn't touch his food or his feet or his toys!!! It was hard to make people take that warning seriously since he 'looked' like he wanted you to!
Boo was given up at the age of ten by a family who was moving to another state and couldn't take him (or so they all say). BooBoo had the worst ear infection in the world. It was like raw meat and had been that way for years.
After months and months of trying to cure the infection, he finally had to have most of his ear canal removed at a veterinary teaching hospital. It was a constant struggle with his allergies and skin problems, but was pretty much managed for the few years that he was with me.
After the surgery, his temperament improved considerably -- probably because he wasn't in such pain anymore. His food issues could have been due to the fact that he was left in the garage with food when his family went away. Knowing golden retrievers, he must have eaten all the food in five minutes and starved the rest of the time.
Until Boo got sick, he always acted like a puppy -- the only time he acted his age was when he was with his foster sister, Abby! Actually, I was fostering BooBoo, but he never got adopted, so I finally adopted him when I realized that I wouldn't be able to give him up.
BooBoo passed away from hemangiosarcoma peacefully at home just a few days after his 14th birthday. He left Sadie, Charlie, and George behind.
