Rebel Stronghold Attacked
The Dune system was assaulted yesterday by elements from the fourth and fifth Ramtan Imperial Fleets under the command of Sky Lord Trafelgar(one of only 5 Sky Lords in the R.I.N.).
Trafelgar's task force was comprised of only Bio-ships. His fleet was a force to be reckoned with and contained:
The enemy was deeply entrenched in the systems three planets. It is unconfirmed right now but it is believed that Admiral Syrte was at the battle and it is not known his condition. The rebel forces were strong in the system. They contained a good fleet of ships and had good planetary defenses. Enemy Fleet:
Although outnumbered the rebels are capable fighters. The two fleets met at the systems outskirts. What followed was a grueling three hour battle. Trafelgar left his transports and marine boats out of the battle guarded by his carrier the Cretta. The battle worked out to be escort vs escort, destroyers vs. frigates, destroyers vs. cruisers, battlecruisers vs. battlecruisers and dreadnoughts, and dreadnoughts vs. dreadnoughts. After the first couple of volleys of fire the rebels had lost 3 escorts, both frigates, 2 destroyers, 3 battlecruisers ,while the R.I.N. forces only lost 2 escorts,1 cruiser, and 1 battlecruiser. The rebel seeing the battle was lost made a full assault to try and allow their dreadnought to escape back into the system. They conscentrated all their fire on the three dreadnoughts encircling the dreadnought. The result was devastating; the remaining rebel forces(3 es, 2 ds, 2 bc) were destroyed completely, although they severely damaged the R.I.N. dreadnought's Kaldon and Victory. Trafelgar now decided to allow the damaged trilliac dreadnought to withdraw into the system in order two move in his repair vessels to salage what they could. Although the rebels lost the space battle they did inflict good losses on the fleet:

Planet II and Attacked
Trefelgar forces took Dune II and III with relative ease. Trefelar sent 3 light transports,2 escorts, 2 destroyers, and 1 cruiser and battlecruiser to secure the two planets. The bulk of the fleet was saved for Dune I where most of the rebel forces remained. Dune II and III combined had only 5 fighter defense in space. On the ground it was a different story each of the desert planets there was an elite rebel ground force. The R.I. troops landed on Dune III fours hours before landing on Dune II. Two light transports landed on Dune III while the remaining one landed on Dune II. larger numbers helped control the planet, but on Dune II the battle was deadlocked with both sides lossing many. The tide was finally turned as one of the Dune Intense ground battles broke out leaving many dead on both worlds. The battle went well on Dune III where III transports lifted off and went to Dune II to reinforce the troops. Eventually both planets were taken but all the forces were needed to keep order and could not participate in the battle for Dune I. |
Battle of Dune I
This battle was the bloodiest of the four Dune battles.
Trefelgar's battle hardened force was moving in on a desperate rebel force intent on fighting to the end.
The rebels had multiple small craft in the battle along with a giant starbase and the Trilliac dreanought under repairs with two trilliac destroyers guarding it.
Trefelgar ordered the his remaining escorts, destroyers and cruiser to escort the marine boats to the station to take it over. He then ordered the carrier to have it's fighters fly next to his ships to protect them from the many small crafts that were going to attempt to ram them.
With the starbase's shields holding at low levels Trefelgar ordered his flagship the Fire Hawk to move it and help. As soon as the shields dropped the 20 marine boats went to board the station. Unfortunatley only 16 made it to the hull of the base to grapple and board. Before it went down the station took out 3 escorts, 2 destroyers and slightly damaged the cruiser.
As for the dreadnought and the 2destroyers they were using this time to try and flee. The dreadnought still damaged could not activate its jump engines which were still down had to hope to make it out of the system. Trefelgar ordered all his armed ships to take out the destroyers and cripple the dreadnought. Meanwhile the transport landed on Dune I to decent restence eventually takening the rebels out but incuring high losses.
Trefelgar's fleet caught the rebel ships out between Dune II and III. The destroyers were quickly destroyed by the two R.I.N. dreadnoughts left and the dreadnought was knocked out of commission shortly after but it did do slight damage to the dreadnought Sussex. As the dreadnought was about to be boarded it hit its thrusts ramming the Sussex destroying her and itself in the process.
After the battle was over 20 rebel ships were destroyed, 3 planets captured, 1 starbase captured, and 20,000+ rebel troops killed. The R.I. forces lost 6 vessels including the Dreadnought Sussex, had multiple ships damaged to severe levels, 4 marine boats lost, 285 of 1000 marines dead, and 16,000+ troops dead of 35,000. It is believed Syrte is dead it the collision but when the body is found we will confirm this. If the case is he is dead then every soldier, crewman, or marine in the battle will recieve a 7,500 Konar bonus. |
