Notes on Back: Abandoned House - There were several around when we first came.
Most have disappeared. Much land here was granted to Revolutionary war soldiers
in lieu of cash pay. They moved out when Illinois opened up (1840) and land was so
much better for farming. Many farms were abandoned in 1840-50. We still have the
