Sigma Iota Sigma, Alpha chapter, at the University of New Hampshire, began in 1988. We originated from the Kappa Sigma Fraternity little sister program. Four years after the sorority began, a group of female students from the University of Southern Maine set out through New England to find a sorority to start on their campus. After visiting many houses, the women chose Sigma Iota Sigma as their favorite, and our Beta chapter was started in 1992. The sisters take part in a number of philanthropic events such as Durham Clean-Up and sexual assault awareness events. The sisters are beginning a new philanthropy of collecting soda and beer tabs to donate to Breast Cancer Research.(We are also well-known for our partying.) The sisters abide by the values of trust, respect, unity, and sisterhood. What we take the most pride in is our individuality. We know that as one we are individuals, but together we are a strong sisterhood. The sorority has provided for us a support system, a place to always call home, and a group of life-long friends. We are currently trying to grow from two chapters to five in order to create a bigger and better Sigma Iota Sigma. The spring 2000 officers are: President - Angela Deboise, Vice President - Janelle Lavigne, Secretary - Becca Kerwin, Treasurer - Rachel Vogt, Socials - Cara Lucius, Kristin Paddack, Caryn-Ann Grady Pledge Educators - Karin Bendeck, Brooke Taylor, Historian - Allison Hyatt, Philanthropy - Amy Lewandosky, and Chapter Contact - Kristin Paddack.
