Girl’s hockey is a great way to:

There is women’s hockey with some of the girl’s leagues.

Girls and women’s hockey is the fastest growing sport in North America. There are over 15,000 female hockey players in Ontario.

You can start playing girl’s hockey at the age of 4.

So you think girl’s hockey is new eh??!

The Story of the November 20 & 21 Belleville Tournament

On Saturday, November, 20th, the Whitby Wolves took a vacation!  Not exactly your typical vacation, though it was a lot of fun!  We spent the weekend in Belleville for our very first
tournament of the season and most of the team stayed at the Ramada Hotel.  Most of us arrived
in Belleville at around 9:30 on Saturday morning.

Our first game was in the Wally Dever Arena at 10:15 a.m.  We played pretty well.  Everyone
tried really hard.  Though Kanata, our first opponent, was a very fast, aggressive team.  At the
end of the first period the score was Kanata 1 Whitby 0.  After two periods Kanata was ahead by
a score of 4 - 2.  Sarah and Rachel got the 2 goals for Whitby to keep us in the game. In the third
period Kanata scored early to go up by 3 goals.  After that we seemed to lose our energy and
Kanata ended up winning 7 - 2.

The second game was later that day at 3:45 p.m.  This time we played Cobourg, a team we had
played before.  They had improved since we last played them but we also played a great game.
To get into the ‘A’ finals we had to win each period.  In the first period Janaye and Kelly each
got a goal and Cobourg didn’t score any goals because our team played well defensively.  In the
second period we had many good chances but still had not scored with just a few minutes left.
We pulled our goalie to try to score. Rachel even hit the post!  In my opinion the second period
was our best period even though we didn’t score a single goal.  In the third period Desiree scored
to make the final score Wolves 3 Cobourg 0.  We won two periods and tied one - oh so close!

After the game against Cobourg we went back to the hotel to try out the waterslide and the pool.
The waterslide was 135 feet long!  After having some fun on the waterslide we went to the pool
and decided to play a little trick on someone ...  A couple of us went to tell Coach Cunningham
that someone’s watch had fallen into the water.  Well, when Mr. Cunningham looked into the
water, we pushed him in!  We got a lot of laughs out of that.  Mr. Cunningham on the other hand
- well that’s another story.

That night we had an eleven o’clock curfew.  The team got a good night’s rest and we were
ready and rarin’ to play Belleville the next morning.  We were all very eager and excited to play
in the ‘B’ final at 10:15 a.m.  Karen started things off with our first goal and Tonya kept things
going with two more goals before the first period ended.  In the second period we were doing so
well that Coach O’Neal announced that we would be changing positions for the rest of the game
- defensemen moved up to forward and forwards back to defense.  Brittney, Melanie, Emily and
Rachel also scored to make the final score Whitby 7  Belleville 0.  The Whitby Wolves were the
champions of the ‘B’ final.

The Belleville tournament was great.  We had a lot of fun - on the ice and off the ice.  The
Belleville tournament was also the first appearance of our second goalie Jessica Shipmaker.
Welcome to the team Jessica.  You’re doing great!
