Septermber 23, 2007 - Sunday

Austin was having a museum day where participating museums were
allowing people to tour the museum for free. Although we didn't get
to visit them all, we did get around to a few.

One of my favorite museums was the Austin Children's Museum. * "The mission
of the Austin Children's Museum is to inspire young children and the adults in
their lives to experience the joy of constructive play. Filled with opportunities for
informal learning and just plain fun, it is Austin's only museum just for the
younger set."

Here are a couple of things around town that we came across that we thought
worth stopping for to get a closer inspection. =)

Update: April 28, 2008
Also while touring Austin on Museum Day, we stopped by the Harry Ransom
Humanities Research Center. * It is "considered one of the world's finest cultural
archives, the Harry Ransom Center houses 30 million literary manuscripts, 1 million
rare books, 5 million photographs, and over 100,000 visual artworks. Highlights include
the Gutenberg Bible and the world's first photograph. The Center is used extensively
for research and presents numerous exhibitions and events each year showcasing its
collections." Here are two newly acquired pictures of that day. The second was taken
by a camera there at the museum which you can use to take pictures with and then the
museum will post them on-line for a day. Of course, here I am.
