Absegami looks loaded once again and there doesn't appear to be anyone with enough returning talent in G4 or the state to beat them. Whoever wins the G4 south sectional will easily win the G4 title and probably earn the #1 ranking in NJ. Gami will get competition from Jackson, Washington Twp. and Lenape in that section, but they appear to have enough coming back to come out on top.

With 12 returning starters Delsea should be one of the finest teams in NJ next season. Led by state champion Don Fisch, Delsea has eight 20+ match winners re
turning to the 2nd best team in G3 last season. I haven't decided on my preseason top 5 yet...but it will be difficult not to consider them for a spot. Group 3 has really emerged the past few seasons as a much stronger group. In south jersey alone you have Delsea and Kingsway...and there's defending G3 champion North Hunterdon...and P'Burg has moved down to G3. Delsea is loaded for 2003...so the race for G3 dominance should be interesting.

Phillipsburg 2002-03 Preview

Graduated 119 - Trevor Duddy (27-10) 1st D1, 2nd R1, 7/8 state
125 - Dan Buss (21-11) 1st D1, 4th R1

P'Burg should once again be in the mix with the top 5-8 teams in NJ, and now that they have moved down to G3 it should be an interesting battle between P'Burg and North Hunterdon for G3 honors. P'Burg returns 8 starters and with the possible return of Mike Fania P'Burg looks to be prepared for a nice season. Fania's return is important because the upperweights are where P'Burg is thin. They also have some question marks down low, but they still appear to be a fine team.

Paulsboro 2002-03 Preview

Seniors 125 - Leroy Parker (14-8) 3rd D29
160 - Eric DiTonno (19-11) 1st D29

275 - Tom Curl (37-0) 1st D29, 1st R8, 1st state
Prospects    Issac Redman

Comments by Sayer of Truth
Paulsboro certainly lost some impressive talent to graduation...but don't think this program is taking a big step back. They are still very dangerous and easily the best team in NJ in Group 1. With nine returning starters and the possible return of Issac Redman Paulsboro will once again be one of the finest teams in NJ and battle Gami, Delsea, North Hunterdon, and P'Burg for that top spot in the rankings.

Washington Twp. is one of the finer teams in the South G4 section. They are also potentially one of the top 5 teams in NJ. With 10-11 returning starters Twp. is poised to make a run at Absegami and whoever wins the south G4 section will probably...and this is a July prediction...will probably be the #1 team in NJ. I know P'Burg and Paulsboro...and also the G3 champion will want a piece of that...but as of right now I figure the south G4 champion will be the best team in NJ. Twp. looks loaded right now so expect good things from them in 2002/2003.

With 11 returning starters, and 10 of them with winning records look for Buena to be one of the better G2 teams in NJ next season. They will need to rebuild the upperweights to achieve overall balance but this appears to be the strongest Group 2 team in the south section

Kingsway returns nearly their entire line-up from last season and should be one of the better teams in NJ in 2002/2003. I have read internet rumor of wrestlers leaving Kingsway, but until they are verified the Dragons have to be considered a threat in the G3 south battle along with Delsea. They have a very strong senior class led by state champ Brandon Becker and should be balanced from 119-275. If they stayed in G2 they would be the favorite...but G3 is tougher next season...so the south G3 winner has a chance to win the whole thing.

Camden Catholic 2002-03 Preview

CC suffered some serious graduation losses and will be hard pressed to match last seasons run at #1 in NJ. They still have talent, they always do...but rebuilding the middle and upperweights will determine their progress in 2002/2003.

Some of the records I have for the OB wrestlers may be a little incomplete but I think they are fairly accurate. OB lost 8 starters to graduation but I remember thinking they would fall off a little last season after heavy graduation loss....but they responded by having another great season. OB is a quality program that simply reloads each year. Their numbers are always good...so I expect them to be back among the top Central Jersey G4 teams again. They do have some rebuilding to do in the middle and upperweights but the lowers appear strong.

Brick Memorial is usually one of the better teams in the G4 south section, but BM lost a lot of talent to graduation...including 3 state placewinners. I expect BM to reload as they usually do but they will take a step back next season. I have also heard rumors of Coach Caravella stepping down. BM must rebuild their middle & upperweights to compete with the big boys in G4...but they have talent in Stahlin (if healthy), Kiley, Duddy, and Karatz.

Jackson is another loaded G4 team in South Jersey and will be one of the teams (along with Washington Twp.) that will give Absegami their biggest competition in G4. Jackson has 11 returning starters including 3 state placewinners in Jeff Pascarella, Jeremy Edwards, and John Loff. Look for the big 3 down south to have a major battle next year for a G4 title.

What can you say about the G4 South Jersey section? It is loaded...and Southern is another example of that sections strength. With 9-10 returning starters look for Southern to be in the hunt again...and also another team in the top 20 in NJ. Team leaders are : Sean Quinn, Ryan Karp, Dan Hall, Ryan Fessler, Joe Schmid, and Ian Holden.

Another strong South G4 program that did lose 4 very talented wrestlers to graduation. TRE still looks to be tough for next season though but replacing four 24+ win wrestlers is not easy. Look for them to be in the South G4 mix again with the rest of the stud teams in NJ.

TRS looks to be an interesting team this season. With 11 returning starters and some serious talent uptop they may be a team to be reckoned with in 2002/2003. The team leaders will be Travis Bogan, Doug Fisher, Cameron Wuesthoff, Joe Adelizzi, Anthony Sorrentino, James Haywood, Kyle Bilquist, and Shaun Wilbert. This certainly looks like a team to be considered for Top 20 ranking in NJ this year.

With 11 returning starters including 7 with 20+ wins, Manalapan looks to be one of the top 10 teams in NJ entering the 2002/2003 season. Looking at it now they may be the favorite in G4 Central Jersey, and if they can find upperweight balance they can be a serious G4 contender. The leaders will be Monochio, Hilt, Beckerman, Burns, Anastasio, Gaeta, and Provow. Manalapan looks primed for an excellent season this year...their senior class is loaded with talent.
