WCW/nWo/WWF RUMORS
NEWS for 1/22/98

Surprise, Surprise...More Tyson News.....
- The big story going on in the wrestling world today is, still, the Mike
Tyson/WWF situation. The angle took a new turn at the RAW taping last
night. I hate giving spoilers but Steve Austin did an interview where he
pretty much said that he will be at IYH, February 15th, LIVE from
HOUSTON, TX and that if Tyson wants, they can do it (wrestle) there.
This interview apparently drew lots of crowd heat. As I reported
yesterday, the National Boxing Commission, the men responsible for
either letting Tyson back in boxing or slamming the door in his face,
have stated to the national media that they have no problem with Tyson
wrestling and that they consider it like a movie spot.
- So does that mean Tyson/Austin will happen at WM 14? I wouldn't call it
a lock yet. You have to look at this side of the story, wrestling is
fixed but major accidents DO happen. Steve Austin almost broke his neck
last year. Shamrock, one of the toughest men in the world today, fell
victim to injuries. Ahmed Johnsons injury list goes a mile long. What I
am trying to say is this, Tyson has NO experience as to how to take
pro-wrestlimg bumps and one mess up could cause him a serious injury.
Tyson is looking at a boxing return in July and is looking at a rematch
with Evander Holyfield. Now, the 3-4 million the WWF is paying Tyson is
big money but no where close to the 30-40 million Tyson would get for
the Holyfield fight. You have to wonder if "Iron" Mike will be willing
to get in the wrestling ring and develop a potential hold on what would
be the one of the biggest boxing fights of all time, Tyson/Holdfield 3.
- Another big question that has been asked is what about HBK/Austin for
the WWF Title at WM? Austin won the Rumble and is suppose to get his
title shot at WM. Let me say this, Tyson/Austin would MURDER HBK/Austin
in terms of the potential WM buyrate. If the WWF can put on Tyson/Austin
at WM, HBK/Austin will be axed in a split second. This would also allow
the WWF to save Austin/HBK, one of the few anticipated matches that the
company has left with their current roster, for another major PPV. The
WWF would probably just stuff Owen Hart into the main event at WM
against Shawn Michaels but I would not expect HBK to job the belt away
to Owen Hart.
- As far as I know so far, CNN Headline News, CNNSI, ESPN Sportscenter and
pretty much every local news broadcast around the U.S. has picked up the
Tyson/WWF story, most showing a large portion of the Tyson/Austin brawl.
If your local news didn't mention anything on it yesterday, they
probably will today. Also, I have gotten MANY emails from readers who
live outside of the U.S. (Thanks Guys) and they have informed me that
many countries in Europe have picked up the story, not to mention the
Canadian Press. Big exposure for Titan. I am not saying that all the
exposure has been filled with positive comments (most of the media has
used this story to bash pro-wrestling), but it is exposure.
- Can you imagine the buyrate for WM 14 if they actually could pull off
the triple main event of HBK/Owen for the WWF Title, Tyson/Austin and
Taker/Kain? It would be huge...(Thanks to the AP, NFD, 1wrestling.com
and MiCasa for contributing to the Mike Tyson/WWF Story)
- In other news today, Randy Savage is NOT going anywhere. Like most big
WCW wrestlers, Savage is upset with the way he has been used but his
contract does not expire until December and he has no out clauses. I
should add though that J.R. is now saying kind things about Savage, much
like he did for Hogan a few weeks ago....(Thanks to the WWF Hotline for
contributing to this story)
- Hey, I went by the CNNSI web site yesterday (www.cnnsi.com) and they
have put up a message board on the topic of Mike Tyson and the WWF. This
board has been a forum for a mini war between wrestling fans and boxing
fans. Both sides pretty much are bashing the hell out of each other.
Pretty interesting stuff, you may want to head over there and let your
voice be heard. I should add though, be polite and show the
non-wrestling fans that we can talk in a calm manner. Thanks to all the
people who informed me of the board....
- Take it easy....Quick thought...wrestler of the week---SILVER KING!!
