Library Duty

(In which several apprentices get stuck cleaning the library. Liseria's fault, naturally.)

Main Hall Balcony
You stand upon the runnershoe balcony of the Main Hall, from which doorways open into the adjoining halls of the StarCraft living quarters. On the western wall stand the great doors of the observatory.
The window looks out over Gar Hold CourtYard.
Through the open window, you notice that It is a summer afternoon.

"Why you!" An irate master's voice bellows in from the the balcony, shaking a hairy-knuckled fist in Liseria's direction. "You lazy, insolent apprentice! You're going to be cleaning the library until your fingers fall off!" Poor Liseria cringes respectfully under Master Generic's tirade, hiding her eyes. "And the rest of you..." he glances around spitefully. "Coming to help this one, hmm? Alright, one candlemark's worth of cleaning in the library for you all as well!" And with that, Master Generic stalks off.

Tatoria looks up, startled as she enters the vault for an innocent walk around the Hall and eends up with cleaning duty. She glances toward Liseria, eyes wide. "What was that about?"

Libby shakes her head slightly, wondering what the Master was talking about, and how she always managed to get into trouble when she hadn't done anything. She looked at the others, hopeing for an explanation.

Liseria sighs softly, a limp shrugging of her shoulders the only answer to Tatoria's question. "I was s'posed to be dusting, but then I ended up chatting with one of those poor, lost little apprentices - you know, the ones that just move in? They're always so adorable..." A mischevious smirk touches her face slightly before she glances somberly towards the door. "Sorry 'bout everything, really. But the candlemarks /do/ fly when you're working...

Tatoria nods slowly, reaching to tuck a heavy strand of hair behind one ear. "So we have to clean the /entire/ library?"

Libby rolls her eyes, thinking of the other things she could be doing to make the candlemarks fly. Still at least this chore was with other people. "It sounded like it!" she says to Tatoria

Tatoria sighs softly, looking from Libby to Liseria and back again. "I haven't even /seen/ the library yet! I suppose I'll know it well enough after this..."

A scornful frown distorts Liseria's features at Tatoria's complaint. "Shells, it's not /that/ bad. The library's fairly clean..." Her voice drops to a whisper, just in case that Master is still wandering about. "All we've got to do is dust some books and make sure everything's neat. Easy!" she adds, skipping out the door with a bouyant look.

StarCraft Library
Bookshelves line opposite walls, reaching from ceiling to floor. A thick stripe of red runs around the room on the walls where they meet the ceiling, silver eight-pointed stars showing the StarCraft's symbol. A few tables are centered in the room for studying and soft chairs are scattered around for those who aren't at the tables. In one corner, a large chair stands with more chairs in a semi-circle around it, a setup suggesting that classes might be taught there. Another corner boasts a potted plant, bright and green due to the careful work of an apprentice or two.

"In here..." Liseria mutters, glancing around the nice area. "See? Not /so/ bad... and you only have to clean for a candlemark..." Ducking behind a book case, she brings out a well-used bunch of clothes, plopping them onto a chair and taking one for herself. "Let's go."

Jorina moves in some quiet way to the StarCraft Main Hall.

Libby looks around at the books, then grabs up a cloth. "Hmm, where to start" she mutters softly

Tatoria grabs a cloth for herself. "Well, I suppose it won't be that bad...." Her voice holds a bit of doubt as she looks around the library...

Liseria finds herself a corner of the library without too many creepy crawling things or dust. "That's the spirit!" she chirps brightly, dutifully whipping dust away from the books - for now, that is...

Tatoria sighs, resigned to the idea of cleaning /this/ - her eyes scan the shelves. She picks a corner for herself and begins to wipe. Hmm... seems she picked a particularlly dusty corner...

Libby grabs a chair and sits in it. She pulls it up to one of the bookcase and begins sweeping at the books "I'm at least gonna be comfortable" she tells the others

Liseria snorts, mostly to herself, as Libby pulls up a chair. "S'okay," the girl states comfortingly towards Tatoria. "Dust'll do that to ya..." Lis slowly makes her way around the room, going one book case at a time and actually doing a half-decent job of removing the dust and buffing the spines.

Libby wrinkles up her nose and scratches at it "Stupid dust!" she mutters, watching the others and dusting at the same time

Tatoria scrubs at her corner somewhat less than dilgently, sniffing again from time to time. No more sneezes, though. She reaches back into a corner that she can barely see, rag twitching. "Um... Guys... I think there's something in this corner..." She stops, then suddenly pulls her hand out of the shadows. "And it's /crawling/!"

Libby stands up slowly, trying to see what's in the corner "What sort of thing?" she asks, wondering what it is

Liseria cocks her head back over her shoulder skeptically, still dusting at an ancient tome. "There's a /what/!?" The rag in her hands stops wiping, and the senior apprentice starts heading towards the said corner.

Tatoria does a little dance, shaking her hand vilolently until /something/ crawly falls from her hand. She quickly backs up several steps, shooting a glare towards Liseria. "I though you said it was clean, anyway!" She looks down to the floor where it's crawling around. "What /is/ that thing anyway? Some kind of bug?"

Libby jumps up onto her chair "I don't know, but I don't want it near me!" she says, not panicing, but not exactly calm either!

Tatoria swats at it with her rag, then gives up being brave and retreats to a corner /far/ away from it.

"It /is/ clean!" Liseria whines in protest, hopping around so as not to let The Thing get too close. A weapon is searched for, and the girl picks up something that doesn't seem to be too important - a big, ol' book, with bound leather and all. "Alright, Thing. C'mon 'n get it!"

Libby watches Tatoria's retreat "There's some room on here" she tells her

Tatoria quickly takes advantage of Libby's offer, scrambling up onto the chair. "Get it!" She cheers Liseria on. From the safety of her chair, of course.

A bunch of wandering apprentices peer in from the hallway, noticing a pair of girls on chairs and one brandishing a book. "Go Lis! Go Lis!" a chorus of male voices chant from the doorway, a few female sopranos joining in as they stop by.

Libby giggles at Liseria "It doesn't stand a chance" she says, trying to sound encouraging

Liseria dances around and around after The Thing, - a thumb-sized black blur scurrying across the floor - book waved high overhead and yodeling a feirce whoop. "Hah!" At the interjection, the tome slams down just behind The Thing; which uses the opprotunity to run under a chair.

Tatoria watches the scurrying of The Thing as it makes it's way across the library. Towards their chair? Oh my! She quickly hops down, retreating yet again to a far corner.

Libby stays on the chair as the Thing crawls under it. She peers under the chair trying to find it. "When it comes out, I'm gonna jump on it!" she tells Lis and Tatoria

Tatoria nods. "Kill it!"

"Alright, alright!" Liseria's got a plan, now. "Libby, you jump on it, and if it runs away, I'll smush it!" The senior apprentice beams at her ingenuity, and a round of applause comes from her admirers.

Libby semi-crouches waiting for The Thing to make it's move. She nods at Lis' comment, concentration spread across her face

As if on cue, The Thing darts out from under the chair. "Libby now!" Lis calls, the crowd in the doorway raising a wild whoop - the chase is on!

Libby jumps down from the chair, landing strangly on one ankle, but missing The Thing, which then crawls aroung very near to her "Careful with that book Lis!" she calls, scrambling to get up

WHAM! Lis slams the book squarely down on the panicing Thing that lets out a pathetic squeal before it's exterminated - and crushed. The crowd goes crazy. "Liiiisss!" Clapping and cheering, it draws the attention of Master Generic. "You brats! Get back to you duties... There's nothing going on in the Library. Or at least, /there shouldn't be/!"

Libby rolls over and dodges Lis' book, then quickly jumps up and dusts yourself of when she hears the Master's voice. Grabbing her cloth again she gets back to dusting, limping only slightly

The crowd quickly breaks up at the Master's bellow, a few apprentices dropping off their books before scooting away as quickly as physically possible.

Liseria peers at the underside of the book warily, noticing the large, gooey black spot on its back. "Aw, that's /dis/gusting!" She states with a grimace, scraping it off with her rag before tossing the sticky cloth into the corner for all posterity. A new rag is picked from the pile resting on the chair, and the girl goes back to her chore.

Master Generic clomps in from the hallway threateningly, bushy-eyebrowed features scrutinizing the place for a few seconds before breaking into a less-grumpy visage. "Hrmph. Alright, you've done good enough. Now get, before I give you some /more/ chores!" He clomps out again, heading off to do something Master-y.

Libby scrables out of the room, as fast as her hurting ankle will take her

Libby walks to the StarCraft Main Hall.
