April 11, 1999 was Lovefest, oh yes, and it was quite the show, if not a wake up call. Lovefest was a reminder that Chatham has a growing music scene, and more and more good bands everyday. Time to support it.
The show began with Junipur, and this performance proved to be their best to date; their live show is improving and it seems that they may have found their groove.

After Junipur came Slipstream, another young Chatham band. Slipstream has nearly all the elements of a good band. They have a good presence on stage, good vocals, and excellent guitar work. Unfortunately, the drumming was a bit inconsistent and off time, and also some off the song arrangements were too lengthy and repetitive. Not to mention the band lost their cool when some young fans began "commenting" on their music.

Following Slipstream was The Janet Theory, one of Chatham's veteren bands. (they are also 3 members of Foster Child). The Janet Theory definately put on a good show and got the crowd pumped. Their music has come a long way, and is full of potential.

At 8:00, the punk hit the fan. The Beat Junkies really brought on the cheers with their upbeat, poppy sounds. The fans went wild as they gave their best rendition of the Star Wars theme music. John Williams would be proud.

The show ended with another perfect performance by Whatever, undeniably one of Chatham's breakaway bands. They have taken their music across Canada and it shows onstage.

An indication of Chatham's growing music Scene is that each of the above bands has released albums and appears very serious about taking their music somewhere, in the past this was a rarity. All in all Lovefest was a great night, and hopefully all who attended realized that Chatham's scene is here, and it needs all of our support.
