A Spur of the Moment Road Trip

On Saturday, October 3rd, 1998, Ben Srokosz and Phil Dennis(Junipur) took a little road trip. You see, Sonic Unyon Records was having their 5th birthday celebration, which involved many great musicians, bands, and the new Sonic Unyon record store. To say the least, the Sonic Unyon guys must have had many sleepless nights planning such a successful, entertaining, and memorable event.

Here is a little summary of our trip....... as we saw it.

The day started with the official opening of the store, by Mayor McCA, and was followed by a performance by the band who is responsible for Sonic Unyon Records, Tristan Psionic. The set featured some old favorites, (Air Traffic Control, Lucky Star, Professional Human, etc.) and some very impressive new tunes. Can't wait for their new EP to come out.

The show then continued with a beautiful performance by Julie Doiron. We had waited so long to see her. She was perfect, just as we had hoped.

After the show, Phil and I got some fresh air(ha ha, Hamilton air)and took a little walk around town..... we made it back for a couple Mayor McCA songs, a set by The Probes, and Bill Priddle of Treble Charger.

As night fell, we made our way to Union Hall. We had spent all our money, but we were rewarded by The New Grand at 8:45. They were unbelievable......

The New Grand were followed by Tricky Woo. The best way to describe these guys is scary, crazy, fun, and raw. Raw and wild playing matched with stage antics like tipping over our tables, throwing chairs, guitars, people, stripping and pure chaos. Everyone was out of their seat and either running for the door or watching in awe.

Thrush Hermit ended the night at Union Hall with a bang.... another band we were waiting to see, and they lived up to all expectations.

We really wish we could have seen more of the bands but between talking with our idols and chasing people for autographs, we were pooped.

As if the entertainment wasn't enough, Sonic Unyon delivered with great selections in their store, and limited edition boxed sets as keepsakes. They contained new Sonic Unyon CD and video compilations. I got #19 of 200. I think Phil got 42 or something. We both used ours for autographs as you can see. Mine is pictured here.

Before we left Hamilton, we got a bite to eat. Don't we look like a couple of slobs?

So that was our trip.......... we got autographs galore and tonnes of pictures, just like we wanted. Cudos to the Sonic Unyon staff for organizing such a great event. Lets just hope there are 10th, 15th, 20th,(you get my point) birthdays, and many more great bands. Congradulations and thanks for a great experience. We still have more stuff getting developed so check in often to see more pics!!
