Winslow Township Fire Prevention

Congratulations to Winslow Township for organizing an excellent family event on Sunday and thanks to all the emergency personnel who volunteered their time.

I have to admit, my son's compelling reason for attending the fire prevention demonstrations was the bike raffle. However, even though he didn't win, he had an outstanding time watching the demonstrations ranging from Conectiv electricity awareness to  the fire fighters rappelling down 75 feet of rope.

I think (if he mentioned it once, he mentioned it 10 times), my son found the miniature house where fire safety was discussed using real smoke (non-toxic of course - it smelled like cotton candy, I'm told) extremely entertaining and very cool (and of course educational).

My daughter enjoyed using the fire hose and squirting water to put out the cardboard flames in the cutout house.

When the medical helicopter circled around and made its landing on the grass, even I was impressed. The staff on
board was extremely patience with the children and answered all types of questions.

There were plenty of pencils, pens, crayons ,key chains and other items given out to make every kid (and some adults) very happy. The fire fighting equipment, EMT vehicles, police cars & Harleys were open for inspection. I think my kids climbed in almost every one.

As we were leaving, The University of Pa medical Helicopter made a dramatic exit. Taking off, looping around and sounding its siren as a good bye- until next year!
