CHARACTER CREATION TIPS

(Updated January 26th, 2001)

GENERAL RULES:

At CapChron Nights, we use the White Wolf Table-Top rules when it comes to making characters. We found that this translates nicely into a Live Action Game, using our Dice-O-Matics™ and our Judges to roll challenges for you. Characters are made as per 3rd Edition rules, with 15 Freebie Points to start and 7 Points maximum in flaws. Also, you can't start off with more than 3 dots in any one discipline when submitting a new character (we like diversified characters over "one trick wonders"). If you need to get a copy of the new White Wolf books almost any book store will have them...I use Amazon.com since it saves you up to 30% on the expensive hard covers (use the below link to go there).

MERITS & FLAWS:

We accept most of the Merits and Flaws from the 3rd Edition books with the following exceptions: We are not currently accepting ANY Merits and Flaws from the New Clan Books, or the Sanguinus Books. We may consider those in the future, but right now, we aren't using them. Merits and Flaws are on a "by character" approval basis... Some of the M/Fs we use openly, some are restricted (meaning only a certain number of players may be allowed to have it at any one time...such as Iron Will, Enchanting Voice, Magic Resistance, Blush of Health, etc.) and some are outright not used at all (a good example of the last are any M/Fs that require special Judge attention...ie: Haunted, Guardian Angel, Spirit Mentor, Danger Sense, etc.). If in doubt, submit your character with the M/Fs you want, and we'll tell you if they are allowed or not.

STARTING GENERATION OF NEW CHARACTERS:

(NOTE: This is a "new" rule that went into effect July 23rd, 2000)

The cost for starting generation of a new character is 1 per dot, as by the book... however, being allowed to have a low gen character is not a "given". If you want to submit a character between 10th and 13th gen, there are no restrictions on that. But we only allow a certain number of 8th or 9th gen characters in each clan at a time, to help represent the fact that "Ancilla" status is not easy to be, and most characters should be "Neonates". The concepts for Ancilla characters must be VERY well written out (in the form of a Prelude) and approved by the staff (assuming there are openings for that gen in the clan you wish to play). If unsure, email us at CapChronNights@aol.com to find out what is available. NOTE: Caitiff Characters can never start lower than 10th gen.

CONCEPT CHARACTERS & CHILDER:

Two ways to gain a few extra freebies are to play a "Concept Character" or the Childe of an existing Character or "Active" Script. A "Concept Character" is one that fills a "hole" in our game or plot, that we, the staff, feel that the game needs. These are characters that are thought up by the Staff, then turned over to the player to do with as they will. "Concept Characters" are not always available, but if you are interested, ask us and we'll let you know if there are any of those that need to be played. When you play one of these, we throw in a few extra dots to help "round out" the character the way we want them to be. Another way to gain some extra dots is to play the childe of an existing character (either player or script). If you do this, the generation of the character doesn't have to be paid for, as it is determined by the gen of the sire...and we award an extra 5 freebie points for playing one of these. If you want to play the childe of an exiting player, simply get their approval and ours, and you will be all set. To be the childe of a script you can petition for what script you want to be the childe of and that is approved by us.

RETURNING PLAYERS:

(NOTE: This is a "new" rule that went into effect July 23rd, 2000)

As Characters change (either through the Player wanting a change of pace, or her last character meeting a heinous death) we grant extra Freebie Points (called "Chronicle Points") to reward our continuing players some extra perks for sticking with us. This amount is balanced to be a fair "bonus" for being a long term player with us while not making new players feel "overwhelmed" when they join in for the first time with fresh starting characters. The amount of extra Chronicle Points you get for a new character is based upon two factors...how many games you've played with us, and how often you chronicled when you were playing. For each game that you've attended, we award you 1 Chronicle Point, up to a max of 5 (which represents a year of gaming with us). Then we look at how often you chronicled...For each time you chronicled for the last five games you played in, we award you an additional 2 points. So, if you played five or more games with us, and never chronicled for the last five games, you would start out a new character with 5 Chronicle Points, but if you had chronicled for all five of those games you would be starting out a new character with 15 Chronicle Points, which translates directly into extra Freebies (as you can see, we reward heavily for continually chronicling in CapChron Nights)... If you are unsure of how many Chronicle Points you are entitled to when submitting a new character, email us at CapChronNights@aol.com and we'll be glad to let you know how many extra freebies you get to make your new character with.

BRINGING THE DEAD BACK TO LIFE:

We certainly understand that at times, one may get bored of a character they are playing, and want to try something new for a game or two, then go back to their former character. We allow this if the Player lets us know his or her intentions in advance, and that they understand that we will not "reserve" a slot in that clan for them. In otherwords, if a player is playing a Brujah, and wants to try a Toreador for a game or two, they can't go back to their Brujah if Clan Brujah filled up in their absense. Also, we DO NOT allow players to change characters to escape player justice or persuit (running from DC for a game or two until the "heat dies down"). If your character leaves a LARP or DC because of any of the following, then that character is considered "dead" in the CCN universe and can't return: 1: Hunted by ANY player characters. 2: Violated a law and thinks they may be caught. 3: Has posession of an item that other players are trying to find or take from that character. However, if a player has a character leave just for a change of pace, and let's us know to keep the former character "on file", we will. We don't have infinate Hard Drive space, so unless you SPECIFICALLY tell us that you may bring back a character when you change, we'll delete the old character from the CCN database and assume they are gone for good.

OPEN CLANS:

What clans are open varies from game to game...and is also based on the total number of active players. If you want to find out what clans are available for the next game, click here: OPEN CLANS
