As the days trudge on, as the sometimes agonizing minutes tick off life’s clock it is very easy to lose perspective. It is very easy to forget through the treadmill of life, that our understanding of time is that it moves at a snail’s pace. We forgot that ours is not the standard by which we need to judge.

The bible in its wisdom defines for us the concept of time. Our days but like a shadow, man’s life like a breath, a morning mist that burns off in the fog, and finally like the grass, he flowers in the field but when the wind blows and it is gone, the place remembers it no more. It is not really expected that we should understand the complexities of this inference. It is extremely difficult to postulate beyond what we know or understand as the truth. But the Book gives us reason to believe, well to speculate there is a time that stretches beyond our understanding.

The reason this all is pertinent is that while we are walking the journey of faith and while its every step is agonizing, seeming long spans inbetween its periods of light, and aside from the differences between our accounts of time and God’s, there is one fact we cannot lose sight of. The joys we will experience at the end of our destination will make all the efforts of the journey negligible. As it is written in 1 Peter 5, ….. after you have suffered for a little while, the God of all grace, who has called you to eternal glory, will Himself, restore, support, strengthen and establish you!

Granted, that while using the time comparison above, the “little while” described in this verse could be, by our standards, an interminable amount of time. But it is the reference to eternal glory with the promise for restoration, support, strength and re-establishment that should raise our anticipation levels. I know it does mine. If you perceive eternity as some measure of time, beyond comprehension, then the endurances of this earthly way, pale to the promise of heavenly restoration, no matter how long it seems to take……..
