Those of you who are Christian music aware know by now that there is no boundaries to the variety of Christian music that I will listen and then tell you about. So, when I tell you about a song rock Christian artists Disciple sings, you might chuckle but shouldn’t be surprised. The song is called After the World. and it is written from the perspective of Jesus singing it to us. I have written before that Christian songs are incredible love songs and this one follows in that mode. I don’t believe you can write a Christian song about the relationship between Jesus and us and it not be a love song. I could be wrong……
As I often do, I have the song playing as I write about it and I can tell you that I am certain God wants me to write about this message because as I sat typing, drawn to this laptop by one section of the song, another part was made crystal clear to me.
The second verse sings, “was I there for the worst of your pain, and was I there when your blue skies ran away, was I there when the rains were flooding you, I hope you see that those were my tears falling down on you.” WoW, how do they write this stuff? God understands your pain, every minute of it, from the littlest detail to the greatest tragedy, He knows it all, and knows how to comfort us when our skies turn from brilliant blue to darkest black. When we suffer in the middle of our storms, it is His tears for our hurt that rains (or shall I say reigns) over us?
Paul reminds us in the 5th chapter of Romans,” that we also exult in our tribulations, knowing that tribulation brings about perseverance; and perseverance, proven character; and proven character, hope; and hope does not ever disappoint.” The whole purpose of our dark and stormy times is to give us hope.
The Disciple chorus melodies that Christ Jesus is the One we’ve been looking and waiting for to calm the storm of our lives. He has had His eyes on us, ever since we’ve been born (and in my case that’s been a long time). The verse concludes that His love is neverending until after the rain falls down, after the sun turns dark and goes out, yes even after this world is no more.
If you are yet to be convinced, Disciple tries another time to drive this message home when they sing,” isn’t MY life a clear sign, since I have crossed over this chasm, to fill the space between Me and you.” Christ’s life of persecution, torment and ultimate death is the sign of our conviction. Through His sacrifice every chasm is crossed, every hole in our life filled, and the space between us is no more…..
