And what fear of God should there be? How is it reconciled that the God of unending love should be feared? These are but a few of the mindless questions I encountered on this walk of faith. the God who gives to us without reservation and promises things beyond our imagination hardly seemed like the One we should fear.
It was revealed to me recently that I may not be looking at this from the correct perspective. It occurred to me that perhaps it was a lot simpler to understand then I was making it. Certainly we must look to God with a fear of reverence, perhaps to look upon Him with awe, rather then fear, a healthy respect for His Almighty power.
We are asked to make choices and decisions in life most that we are unprepared to make. In fact we make most of them instinctively without much thought to the process. There are some, getting married, buying a home, and choosing to start a family that requires some contemplative evaluation. Those choices even with diligent review offer little or no guarantees; the best of our choices may turn out to be the worst plan. And so we walk this road very carefully, fearfully, not in as much as we are afraid to make God unhappy but perhaps that we have not given God due process in our choices.
We should fear God in that respect, that we have not given Him His due in the decision making processes and evaluation modes that we use. Verses like, in all thy ways acknowledge Him and He will direct your path, and place the kingdom of God first and everything shall be given to you come to mind.
We should fear not having God in the decision making process. While many can point to the choices they have made (without God) and say how well they turned out, and in our evaluation that may be so. No choice we make with or without God can insure the interpersonal relationships or financial stabilities that we might expect. When you place yourself in God’s Hands you have to contemplate that the results will provide a platform to fill His expectations and not ours. Perhaps this is the fear that we all have of God.
If you still need reason to have a healthy fear of God, consider the Scripture in Acts13, it states the message of Salvation has been sent to those who fear God. I can insure this message is one you want to hear
We pray that the choices we make meet our expectation here on earth and not out Father’s approval in Heaven. We make earthly choices and expect Heavenly results. We pray for God to bring us to a point and then complain about or ignore the road He has us on. we pray for things we think we want and are never happy about getting the things we need.
We sit here looking for a sign, while we are missing the ones that are in plain view.
