It’s rare that I ever find fault with a song. I am the one crying out that whatever your heart desires to put before Jesus is your offering to Him. It is no place for the weak and struggling to be judgmental. So I will offer this alternative to the great Seventh Day Slumber song, Ocean’s From the Rain.
The song has few equals in its intent to praise and worship the extraordinary works of our Savior Jesus Christ. Using phrases that range from the small to the immense, the song asks us to contemplate the vastness of what only He can do for us. From a mustard seed great mountains can be moved and from a single simple drop of rain, oceans are made. That is the point of meditation, when you think of the first drop of rain falling from the sky, becoming the initiate of an ocean.
His influence of love for instance, just a touch, just a fleeting glance into His eyes of love can architect and institute the most profound changes of our life. I love the story in Matthew 9, where the woman, touches just the fringes of His cloak and is healed for her faith. Imagine, the fringes of His cloak, just the scantest touch of His influence on our life will introduce the greatest light to overcome the deepest darkness of sickness, addiction, oppression, depression, confusion and frustrations. That indeed is a tall order rendered by just a brush of His love.
When you begin with a drop of rain and expand it exponentially outward, oceans are formed and that is the truth of God’s love for us. There is no containing what can be realized with just a few words. Jesus, I confess that I am a sinner in need of Your love. I bring You into my life as my Lord and Savior. With those words You are at the entryway to the greatest Kingdom of all Eternity……
The change I would offer for this song, is this, after a chorus of ,” You make oceans from the rain (wash it all away)” is repeated a few times, the endline says, “the blood of Jesus can wash your pain away.” I offer this, that not only can the blood of Jesus wash your pain away, but it will, again and again and for as many times as there are drops of rain to fill an ocean……
