I have this screen saver program that displays wonderful scenery with a verse of God. Mostly it goes unnoticed, as attention gets drawn to whatever it is I might be working on, or looking for. Sometimes though I will watch it for a few verses and let the wisdom of the words reign over me. Today was such a day, there over s seascape magnifying God’s glory was a verse in Psalms 32 verse 8.

I guess at first it is an innocent enough glance, but thinking about it shows me a deeper inflection. The verse simply states, “I will teach you in the way you should go, I will guide you with my eyes…” At first glance, and not totally incorrect, we see it as the Lord watching over every detail in our life. For most of us that should be both a comforting and terrifying thought, because it will reveal our positive inclinations and our deepest darkest secrets.

People of faith will understand and confess themselves as sinners, readying themselves for the divine mercy and grace of Jesus’ love. They understand that nothing is hidden from Christ’s view, that there is no place to hide from His unyielding pursuit. Regardless from whence they came, the confidence of agape love is on them. There is no corner too dark or too dirty, no sin so vile or destructive to hat would exempt you from eternal protection.

But this verse beings a second aspect that struck me. It provides that the teaching and guidance of the Word will become clear as we see it through God’s eyes. “I will guide you with my eyes”, discovers an absolute truth that following the Word of our Savior will open our souls and soften our hearts, so that the seeds of other disciples can take root and grow to harvest, bearing rich and supple fruits. If only we turn our eyes from the evils of this earth and direct them to the Heaven of our salvation. If only we surrender our sight to the Lord and view things as He would have them viewed.

If you don’t believe that God is able to relate to your addictions, oppressions, frustrations or conditions, then you simply have not spent enough relational time with Him. It is not called the Book of Answers without reason. He set Foot on earth to mark the path of our unpaid bills, our sickness, our heartbreaks and claimed victory over all of them through the blood of His Crucifixion.

In context this verse has a yet another connotation. It defines that those who do not follow Jesus; many sorrows shall be to the wicked: but he that trusteth in the LORD, mercy shall compass him about. Be glad in the LORD, and rejoice, ye righteous: and shout for joy, all ye that are upright in heart. We have the choice to follow Him or not, in every situation, not doing so seems always to wind up in some dilemma. Be glad in the Lord and rejoice for He will make your paths straight…..
