We practiced understanding opposing points of view,
persuasive speaking, and writing by debating social studies issues. Our
topics included management of the world's rainforest resources and immigration
issues. Collaborative groups developed the criteria to judge the debates fairly. We decided upon Contact, Clarity, Content, Creativity, and Courtesy. Teams of 4 debated.
