Complete Update 12/28/01

My friend, Karl Schindl, has researched and put together rosters for the Modern Era Franchise All Stars.  Using APBA's BBW game he is replaying the full American and National League seasons.   Posted here for your review are the Standings, the American League Batting Leaders, the American League Pitching Leaders, the National League Batting Leaders and the National League Pitching Leaders.  Only about 30 games left until the post season.  Enjoy!!!

All Star Game

It was a beautiful night in Detroit for the MFAS All-Star game. Stottlemyre vs Bunning. The NL wasted no time getting started as McGee proved why he was The NL starting CF as he beat out an infield hit. On the first pitch to Thompson, McGee took off, and Thompson lined a double to right scoring McGee. Robinson singled to left, holding Thompson at 3rd and it looked like the rout was on with McCovey up and nobody out. McCovey grounded one in the hole and Trammell got Robinson at second, but McCovey managed to avoid the double play and Thompson scored giving the NL a 2-0 lead. Mel settled down and retired Carty and Bench to end the inning. In the bottom of the first, Carew stayed hot as he tripled over McGee's head. Trammell up and Alan greated the home town fans with a game tying HR and the crowd went wild! This looked like it could be a shootout. However, Bunning also settled down and got the next 6 AL batters in order. The game continued into the 7th as John, McLain and Guidry helded the NL in check as did Hands and Carlton. Moving into the bottom of the 7th with one out Cash singled off Marichal. Whitaker PR for Cash and Griffey was to PH for Sierra. Griffey hit a slow roller to Bell but beat it out for an infield hit. Brooks Robinson up, 2 on, one out. Brooks hit one deep to left that Carty caught at the wall. 2outs, Fosse up. Ray grounded out to end the rally.

In the 8th AL skipper sent out the lone Brewer representative Pete Vuckovich. Billy Williams pinch hit for Bell and blooped a double down the right field line. Rose PH for Marichal and sacrificed Williams to 3rd. AL skipper Schindl headed out to the mound and summoned Brian Harvey, who has an excellent K/IP ratio, to face Mays. Harvey didn't get the job done as Mays flew out to Yaz in left scoring Williams to give the NL a 3-2 lead. In the bottom of the 8th, Ron Perranoski, the Dodger representative took the mound. Frank Thomas led off with a walk. Carew doubled to the right field corner, but Clemente's strong throw held Thomas. With anyone else out there, Thomas might have scored but with nobody out it was the right decision. Julio Franco up with a chance to be a hero, but Julio popped out to Kessinger. One out, Yaz up. The NL manager was faced with a tough decision. Walk Yaz the lefty for the right handed slugger Tartabull, who had been having a great year as well. It was decided that Perranoski pitch to Yaz, but don't give him anything to hit. Yaz somehow turned on an inside fastball and sent it over the wall in right to give the AL a 5-3 lead!!! This may have been Yastrzemeski's first standing O in Tiger stadium. Franco came on the retire the side and we moved into the 9th. Hernandez, Gwynn and Carter due up and if anyone got on, Mike Schmidt. Going with the platoon advanatage, the AL Skipper called on Frank Viola to face Hernanadez and Gwynn with right handed help in the bullpen if he got into trouble. Hernandez took the first two pitches for strikes, but fouled off next several more before Viola missed with ball 4. What an at bat for Keith hanging in there against the tought left-hander Viola. Gwynn then doubled to right putting the tying run on second for Gary Carter. Eckersley was brought in to save the day for the AL. Carter flied out to left, one down. Schmidt up next. Mike took a called strike three, two down. Joh Franco due up. The NL down to the last out called on George Foster for some last minute heroics. Eckersley threw a slider that Foster hit deep to left as Yaz back peddled to the wall and made the catch!! The AL prevailed 5-3, what a game!!!
