WEATHER In September the climate is generally cool and the island is safe from extreme temperatures. During the end of the winter season, i.e. September, the temperature varies from 18º C to 23º C on the Central Plateau and from 23º C to 28º C on the coast. Specifically, for the northern area of the island, where the Conference venue and Hotels are located, the average temperature in September varies between 25º C during the day and 20º C at night. The coast is generally 5º C warmer than the Central Plateau. This inter-season period is normally quite dry. Cyclones occur generally between November and February. Daylight hours are approximately from 06.00 to 18h30 during this period. Light clothing, including a light suit or jacket will be ideal.

The exchange rate is set by the Government so all banks will provide the same rate. Please keep all exchange paper work as this will be needed to reconvert remaining rupees at the Airport on departure. Mauritius is one country where travellers cheques get a better rate than cash. It is advised to use banks rather than hotels to get the best available rate. Banking hours are from 9.00 am to 3.00 pm on weekdays and 9.00 am to 11.00 am on Saturdays. Most major credit cards are universally accepted. The Local Organising Committee will arrange for foreign exchange facilities. The main banks are within 15 minutes walk from the Conference Centre.
DEPARTURE TAX Current regulations require that everyone must pay a departure tax of 500 rupees. This tax is normally already included in the price of the return air ticket.
