Jesse - Miami Dolphins

Dear Dan,

I received your letter from a fellow Miami Dolphin Cheerleader and was immediately interested. It is always nice to know someone cares and shows appreciation for a cheerleader. This project seems like a great opportunity for everyone to get to know us on a personal level.

I guess I'll start by telling you a little about myself. At age five, I knew I wanted Dancing to be a part of my life forever after my Aunt Angel took me to see "The Nutcracker." Through the years, I enrolled in various Dance classes such as; tap, ballet and twirling. Dancing is not only great exercise but a great way to relieve stress. Next time you get stressed out, turn up the music really loud and jump around. In high school, I made the dance team my freshman and sophomore years. My senior year, I cheered basketball and football. When I graduated, I thought, 'What do I do now?' There were auditions for a professional baseball cheerleading team. That was a wonderful experience. I decided to move back to the east coast.

This year, I have kept myself busy by going to school. I attend Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton. I hope to receive my degree in Human Resource Management with a minor in Marketing. School is very expensive, so I work two jobs to pay for it.

Back in December, I saw a newspaper clipping for Miami Dolphin Cheerleader auditions. I really wanted to start dancing again, so I immediately dialed the phone number for more information. After weeks of working out, making up routines, and attending prep classes, I finally found out April 25, 1998 I had made it. I was going to be a Miami Dolphin Cheerleader!

The weeks of practice and training flew by, and now, next week is our first game. I'll tell you the truth. I am nervous but really excited. There is no better feeling than when people come up to you and tell you how great your team looks. My dream has come true and I love it. I have been given opportunities that I couldn't even fathom. I will admit it is a lot of hard work. We practice three to four times a week in the hot sun. But enough about cheerleading and practice.

When I am not cheerleading, my passion is spending time with people and listening to others. I believe that all people need love and support from one another. If I didn't have my friends, family and especially my boyfriend, I couldn't have made it through everything. I know everybody has bad days, but just try to remember how others feel. Whether they're waiting on your table, cutting your hair or delivering your mail, please try to be kind. People tend to look at others as workers, not human beings. Everybody has feelings, let's try to be more aware of them. Thank you for reading. Without you, I would have no one to cheer for. I always say "keep a smile on your face, because if just one person smiles, it can spread like sunshine. Have a great day!

Cheers,

Jesse
