The Chessboard Queen and Guenivere by Sharan Newman

Nimue in The Chessboard Queen and Guenivere by Sharan Newman I can almost swear that there is a third book in this particular series, but I can't remember what it is called to save my life, and my evil little copies don't list the other book. Oooh...evil...

Anyway, in here, Nimue is the handmaiden of the prime Lady of the Lake who raised Lancelot. However, the Lady is a tad worried about Lancelot, so she sends Nimue to seduce him. When Nimue fails (because he's in love with Guenivere) she's distraught until she finds Merlin who cheers her up with rainbows. They become lovers and eventually Nimue runs away with him when he leaves to a perfect world after being snippy to Guenivere, running around doing weird things, etc.
