Niniane in the Coming of the King
by Nikolai Tolstoy
Considering that this goes back to the very old welsh
stories of Myrddin Sylvanesti, there really isn't a Niniane per se, there's
more of an "what eventually will be Niniane". And, considering that
Nikolai Tolstoy is a great writer and researched everything really well,
it seems worth reading. You can follow Niniane's pre-Niniane self
as Gwendyd, the twin sister of Merlin who is his equal in power. She apparently
is somewhat entwined with his wife, which Nikolai Tolstoy manages to make
work by being his lover, so although a little incestous, very accurate.
This is a really cool book mainly in that it shows the very dawn of Arthurian
legend in something readable to someone who lives in the modern world.
