JULY 2000 NEWSLETTER VOL. X #7

Entertainment this month features John Willever
The Trolley-The Cars That Built Our Cities.

HOPE the warmth of summer is finding its way to all of you. The longer days of June and July are a wonderful opportunity to get things done around the house and head for the tracks to find some interesting railroad subjects in the evening sweet light. Don't forget to head on over to the July meeting of PRRH to be held on July 26 at 7:30 PM at the ALPHA UNITED PRESBYTERIAN CHURCH. After the business portion of the meeting, refreshments are always served.

In club news this month, we will be determining the condition of our most prominent pieces of equipment this summer in anticipation of bringing them into the enginehouse for eventual cosmetic restoration. The CNJ caboose, the GE diesel, and the flanger will be the pieces earmarked for display.

We are still waiting on word regarding the movement of Anthracite's X29 boxcar to be placed in our museum for restoration by ARHS.

I am pleased to inform you that the enginehouse is under roof and the side walls nearly complete. The doors were in the process of being hung as this newsletter goes to print. Some of the projects we would like to complete this year include: resumption of C&S train service upon completion of all necessary trackwork, Grade and backfill the enginehouse and secure it from weather and trespassers, and Completion of two full scale tracks to reach and enter the building. We will need your help to accomplish this. C&S track gang works on Tuesday evenings starting at 4:30, Saturday full scale is scheduled for the first and third Saturday at 9:30 AM. We will hopefully introduce a Thursday evening full scale work party soon in the hopes that we can boost participation in the project. Our museum coordinator, Glenn Terminelli, and members of the NJER were successful in installing the switch frogs at our crossover.

Jim Mack, our Vice President, has agreed to take on the responsibility of providing this club with some oral history research on subjects of interest to the membership. Jim has a wide contact range with groups on the internet and will provide a valuable function for us.

We wish to remind you of our up and coming picnic to be held on Sunday September 10 at Hugh Moore Canal Park in the Glendon area of South Easton. This is our first event of this type and your participation ensures success. The small pavilion is ours starting at 11:00 AM. You will have a chance to eat, ride a canal boat if you wish, and even watch trains from the bridge. I have appointed Bill Pensyl in charge of activities, and our chief (chef) for this exciting event is Ed Meyers. If you have any ideas to enhance this memorable occasion, please see these men. We need to call your attention to some of the provisions necessary to attain our goals. Ed has made a list of various food items, condiments, and incidentals. This list is at the July and August meetings. You need to put your name alongside the item(s) you can provide. We will also need chests capable of holding ice cold so we can give you cold drinks. We will supply the ice, you the coolers. If you are donating soda, we will need to have it by the August meeting in order to keep it cold for the picnic. The burgers and dogs will be supplied by us. If you can supply us with a cooler or chest, we will also need that by the August meeting.

We still have ornaments available at the meeting. They are sharp and would look nice on your tree or wherever fits your style.

Memorial wall solicitations are available now at the museum building in honor of anyone you would like to forever remember. See Jim Mack or Pete Terp for details.

I wish to openly thank Steve Winter for his efforts at giving PRRH publicity and exposure to the areas around us. Advertisement and word of mouth go hand in hand.

I would like to thank member Earl Brotzman for representing PRRH at the June show days at Milford. Earl gave of his time all day in the heat.

The results of the July 2 raffle are as follows:

First prize 250.00 J. Whipple Pittstown, NJ sold by Bill Pensyl
Second 100.00 K. Hoag Phillipsburg, NJ sold by Jim Stetler
Third 50.00 C. Pensyl Easton, PA sold by Bill Pensyl
Fourth 25.00 J. Willever Washington, NJ sold by John Willever
