DECEMBER 2002 NEWSLETTER VOL. XII #12
Entertainment this month features: To Be Announced |
It's that time of the season again. Ho Ho Ho... Nice and frigid... The computer refuses to work consistently ... Only one of our four cars runs... I've been towed twice in two weeks... The mortgage is due and we haven't begun Christmas shopping... I can't find time to put out the decorations and my kids want to know when we're going out to saw down a tree. When I see the red balls, it must be blood. Ohh! The directors of PRRH would like to wish every one of you a most joyous holiday season filled with health and happiness.
Actually, we have much to be thankful for within our organization. Our activities have been filled with much fellowship and good luck has possessed our undertakings. We will expand on that in next month's report.
The December monthly membership meeting will be held on Wednesday night, December 18 at 7:30pm at the Alpha United Presbyterian Church. Refreshments will be served and quality video entertainment will follow the business portion of the meeting. We are planning on showing you, for the first time, our first oral history production, done by members Pete Blaess and Rick Glosser. This excellent premier feature showcases the life of Michael Brosky, former CNJ trainman, retired and now deceased.
The slate of officers for 2003 will be announced and installed at the meeting. They are as follows:
Your officers work for the enhancement of our group and have a large responsibility in their efforts to make intelligent decisions. Please give them your support and do not hesitate to ask them about anything you may have a question on.

PRRH has received General Operating Support for 2003 made possible by a grant from the Warren County Cultural and Heritage Commission in the amount of $500.00. We did not get our requested first time grant from United Trust Bank. The reason given was an overabundance of applications.
Member Davis Palmer, also a member of Anthracite Railroads Historical Society, led a successful tour of the slate belt on Sunday November 10 followed by a tour of our facilities. About thirty ARHS participants rode the Centerville & Southwestern and photographed our equipment. Member Earle Brotzman is assisting in the Toys for Tots campaign held in Bethlehem. You might consider supporting this worthwhile cause by visiting the building at Broad and Main and bringing a toy for some underprivileged child. We are also proud to congratulate Earle for his accomplishments to other organizations culminating in his appointment as " Veteran of the Year " .
We have some copies of 7 PLUS RAILROADER which features an article on the Centerville & Southwestern, past and present.
We welcome new members Janice Snyder of Catasaqua PA and Robert Hammond of Phillipsburg. PRRH welcomes you both to the group. As we reflect during this holiday season on the many gifts given to us during the year, it is a privilege for me to have established friendships with the members and their families. Through the many functions that we have gotten together to do, I am impressed with the good nature and cooperation that I have witnessed without fail. For all the times we have needed a helping hand or a kind word, I have never been left without an answer. This organization has promoted the idea of mutual interest and the end product has been respect and cooperation. I hope to see you at the meeting. I always forget to mention should there be a question about the meeting being held on a bad weather night, you can call 908-859-1277 or 610-826-2580 to get an answer.
We look forward to seeing you at the meeting.
