NEWSLETTER

DECEMBER 1992

CURRENT EVENTS

There will be a meeting December 16 at 7:30 P.M. on the 2nd floor of the Phillipsburg Town Hall. There will be entertainment. Remember there are meetings EVERY month.

THE PRESIDENT'S MESSAGE

1992 has seen much progress. We acquired the Centerville and Southwestern Railroad for the Town of Phillipsburg, moved it from Monmouth and set up shop in the Reliance Firehouse.
We got our tonner running (one end) and stabilized our full size equipment.
We did one train show and two events with the Centerville and Southwestern equipment.
We secured the Bel-Del property and kept our section looking good.
We are on the air with radios and they have been of much help.
We are setting up some of Rocky's equipment collection at the firehouse for the education and enjoyment of all.
Most of these feats were accomplished by our usual group of volunteers. 1993 will bring us many tasks, large and small. THIS IS YOUR ORGANIZATION, YOUR HELP IS NEEDED. Volunteer a Saturday or adopt a project and take it home. Everyone's help can be used. We still need a publicity chairman, a good job for a retiree. Not all of the work is buggy-lugging.

Happy Holidays to all our members and their families. -- Pete

EQUIPMENT

MINATURE RR REPORT: Wayne Deshler reports that work on the track plan in the park can proceed anytime. The park has been staked out twice and both times vandals have removed the stakes. The Jersey Central Chapter of the National Railroad Historical Society will be donating $5000.00 toward the laying of the miniature railroad track. Money will be used for ballast, ties and other incidental expenses. Rocky Rockafellow reports that he along with Adam Spieles, Glenn Terminelli and Bob Kelly have cleaned out the larger of the two rooms upstairs at the Reliance Firehouse. Rocky will be using the room to set up his collection of railroad signals. Thanks to all those who helped ready the building for use as a poling place on election days. Let's keep the building looking good.

LIRR TRUCKS: Since our last meeting we have retrieved these. Member Bob Shandor lent us his heavy roll-back truck. Pete Delikat and Jeff Chiu made the move. Thanks also to Phil Imbro of Washington, New Jersey for alerting us about them.

MISCELLANEOUS

We need a place to store the miniature train ticket office. If there are any members who want to adopt and refinish a Centerville and Southwestern car this winter see Wayne Deshler or Bob Kelly.
A work shop is being set up in the basement of Viking Auto Supply so that work can continue this winter.
We need someone to handle the publicity, preferably someone retired who has the time.
Anyone available to work on Saturday please contact Pete Terp at Viking (454-4848) on Friday evening.
At our last director's meeting we discussed the possibility of a banquet in the upcoming months. I'm sure we could persuade Jim Boyd to provide some entertainment for us. 1993 is the anniversary of the first signal in "Black Dan's Cut". We would like to erect a signal in Shappell Park.
Note: The "Black Bridge" on South Main Street is scheduled to be closed in March 1993 for repairs which should continue for 8 months.
