JUNE 1998 NEWSLETTER VOL. VIII #6

This months meeting will be held as usual at 7:30 P.M. on June 24th at Phillipsburg Town Hall in the basement. Entertainment to be announced.

The month of May was spent preparing for June 6th and 7th. C&S track has been extended to the rear of the Museum building. Many volunteers worked hard to make the museum property look good for our opening and the Jersey Central Picnic on June 7th. Thanks to Lynn Beck for making us a new welcome sign (We owe you). Alan Bellis did a fine job of getting the C&S in shape. The safety windows made by John Drake and painted by Jim Stetler were installed in the CNJ Caboose by Ann Jennings and Jim Kern. They look great. Many hands worked Sunday the 7th setting up for the Picnic, with Ed Meyers cooking, Paul and Meg Carpenito serving.

We are waiting for the town to cut a purchase order for the wall blocks (Budget must be approved first). We are in the final design stages on our engine house and fences for the south property. We attempted to move the trolley sweeper on June 2nd only to find a 15 ton Fork Lift would not move it. We will have to rethink this project. ARHS has retrucked their boxcar and delivery is expected within 30 days.

Upcoming projects will be Track Laying, Moving Track Supplies, Securing Rolling Stock, Retaining Wall, Outside Lights, Prepare Site for Engine House as well as being open every Sunday. We are obligated to have the Museum open on Sundays. Volunteers needed. Work Parties will continue on Monday & Thursday Evenings and Saturdays. Call Pete Terp for details at 908.213.1722.

Phillipsburg Wins!!! The N.J. Railroad and Transportation Museum Commission has endorsed Phillipsburg as the site for the proposed NJRR&TRAN Museum. Next move will be the State funding a Master Plan for the Museum Site in part of the Bel Del Yard. Bill McKelvey has agreed to maintain an information site on the state project in our Museum.

The following Members have contributed 210 volunteer hours during June. Jim Anderson, Ed Beers, Alan Bellis, Meg and Paul Carpenito, Jim Dyer, Bill Frasier, Dave Gandy, Rick Glosser, Jim Kern, Ann Jennings, Bob Kirkpatrick, Jim Mack, Joe Maddock, Bob Marinelli, Ed Meyers, Ken Miller, Jack Quinn, Glenn Terminelli, Pete Terp, Steve, Matt and Becky Winter.

Thanks to Alan Bellis for laying out the news page.
