Summary/Review:
Savage Dragon #63 is the touching followup to #62, which featured the "death" of Dragon's wife, Jennifer. This issue starts off with informing the readers that Dragon has quit the S.O.S. after several quit, comeback, episodes. This time however, Dragon quits because his new daughter, Angel, needs to stay by his side. Being the superhero that he is, Dragon has many enemies. These enemies know it is a great time to attack Dragon. After the death of his "wife," Dragon is not emotionally sound, and needs to stay stabilized. The dude tries to stay secret. He just wants to spend some time alone with his daughter. But, his enemies keep on attacking him in his own home. Of course, Dragon beats the guys up, and wakes Angel up to go to the zoo. The two take a cab, and Dragon starts having a flashback to when his "wife" was "killed." No sooner has he came out of the flashback, when a streetsign becomes a weapon. The street sign falls over, and starts to shoot spikes at the cab. Dragon understands that a powerful enemy is out to get him and his loved ones. While taking Angel to the hospital, Dragon vows to find out who did this. Beating up on common thugs because a common thing, because Dragon needs to find some information. The information comes in the form of Dragon's enemy, "Mace." Mace hits him with... a mace ... and Dragon becomes drugged. Upon waking up, he finds he is surrounded by overlord and other enemies. Normally, Dragon figures he would never stand a chance. But, he fights all of them anyway, and wins. All because of his temper... I guess nice guys DO finish last. Overlord backs into a corner, shivering with fear. Dragon tears off the mask and underneath, it is revealed... VIC NIXON IS OVERLORD!!!
Erik Larsen is becoming a workaholic. Dragon #63 flies into comic shops just two weeks after issue #62. Eric is also working on Wolverine and Nova, and his hard work shows. The story is amazing as ever. No matter what, Erik has a knack for writing. But his art seems to be taking it's toll. Although it is still pretty durn good, it doesn't have that "Larsen look." Despite the art, everything else was the same amazing Erik Larsen work that I can come to expect. 63 issues and no end in sight...
