Grand Slam Fantasy Baseball League Constitution
THE GRAND SLAM FANTASY BASEBALL LEAGUE CONSTITUTION
I. Object
Assemble a lineup of 23 National and American League baseball players whose cumulative statistics during the
regular season, compiled and measured by the methods described in these rules, exceed those of all other teams in
the league.
II. Roster
A team's active roster consists of the following players:
- 9 Pitchers
- No more than 7, no less than 5 starters.
- No more than 4, no less than 2 relievers.
- 5 Outfielders
- 2 Catchers
- 1 1B
- 1 2B
- 1 3B
- 1 SS
- 1 Middle Infielder (SS or 2B)
- 1 Corner Infielder (1B or 3B)
- 1 DH or Utility Player
III. Drafting
There will be a draft held ON SATURDAY, MARCH 21, 1998, AT 12:00 NOON EASTERN TIME (subject to change) in the chat room on this web site. Each team's postition
in the draft will be determined by the commissioners picking the teams out of a hat. The drafting sequence will be reversed each
and every round. There will be no player salaries, team salary caps, etc. The draft is finished when all teams have a squad of
23 players. The draft for the reserve rosters will be a silent draft via email.
- After the draft a team may drop and add players to fit the roster requirements (see above)
- No team may trade, drop, or add any draft picks.
An 8-player reserve roster draft is conducted FOLLOWING the major league draft, in which each Rotisserie League team may acquire 8
additional players.
IV. Position Eligibility
A player may be assigned to any position at which he appeared in 5 or more games in the preceding season. If a player did not appear in 5
games at a single position, he may be drafted only at the position at which he appeared most frequently. The 5 games/most games measure is
used only to determine the position(s) at which a player may be drafted. Once the season is under way (but after the draft), a player becomes
eligible for assignment to any position at which he has appeared at least once.
V. Fees and Prizes
None(We will be using Sportsline's Commissioner program)
VI. Player Salaries
There will be no player salaries, salary caps, etc.
VII. Standings
The following criteria are used to determine team performance:
- Composite batting average, Total home runs, Total RBI's, total stolen bases, Runs scored.
- Composite ERA, Total wins, Total saves, WHIP (bases on balls + hits)/ innings pitched, Strike Outs.
Teams are ranked from first to last in each of the ten categories and given points for each place. For example, in an 12-team league, the first place
team in a category receives 12 points, the second place team 11, and so on down to 1 point for last place. The team with the most total points
wins the league.
A team must pitch a total of 900 innings to receive points in ERA and WHIP and a team must have 4250 at bats in the season to receive points
for batting average. Pitchers' offensive stats are not counted. Nor are the pitching stats of the occasional position player called in to pitch.
VIII. Trades
From the completion of the draft until the first Monday in September, fantasy teams are free to make trades of any kind without limit,
except as stipulated below, so long as the active rosters of both teams involved in a trade reflect the required position distribution upon
completion of the transaction. No trades are permitted from the first Tuesday in September through the end of the season. Trades made from the
day after the season ends until rosters are frozen prior to draft day are not bound by the position distribution requirement.
Unbalanced trades are allowed under the following conditions: the number of players traded between the two teams can differ by no more then
1 player. The team receiving the greater number of players must immediately designate which player is released, while the team receiving the
lesser number of players must announce a free agent they intend to sign. The free agent signed due to an unbalanced trade must sit on the
reserve roster for one complete reporting period. The team signing the free agent does not have automatic priority over standard free agent
signings procedures (the team with the lowest total points has priority).
Contracts follow traded players.
The commissioners have the right to challenge trades that they strongly feels resemble "dumping". A vote of two out of the three
commissioners approve or veto all trades. When any commissioner conducts a trade, confirmation is only needed from one of the two remaining commissioners.
Once a trade is confirmed by both managers and commissioners, the trade cannot be reversed under any circumstances.
IX. The Reserve Roster
In addition to the 23 man active roster, there will also be a 8-man reserve roster. These players can be freely substituted with active players at
any time throughout the course of the season. The reserve roster will expand to 10 players via an expansion draft, the first week of September.
X. Free Agents
Active major league players not on any fantasy league team's roster at the conclusion of the inuagural draft become free agents. During the
course of the season the pool of free agents may also include minor league players who are promoted to an active major league roster, and
released players who are not claimed.
XI. Replacement of active and reserve roster positions
A team may only replace a player on its 23-man active roster with a player from the reserve roster.
There will be a free drop / add in May, June, July and August in which any non contracted player can be released and replaced
by a free agent.
Any changes to the active roster must be submitted by 10 PM Sunday.
XII. Roster Protection & Retention
Each team may retain, from one season to the next, no more than 14 players.
- The names of players being retained must be recorded with the league secretary by 10 PM, on a date to be announced by the commissioner prior to the major league draft. Notice must be made at that time regarding the length of the contract signed.
- In the case of a sudden loss of effectiveness or just stinks a team must honor the terms of the retention, and keep him until the monthly drop add.
- If a contracted player is placed on the 60 day disabled list, suspended for 10 consecutive games or more, is sent to the minors, retires, or dies; the owner then has the option to nullify the retention and release him to the free agent pool.
