The teams' starting rounds are adjusted to have 32 teams in UCL - League Round and 96 teams in UEFA Cup - Round 1. Adjustments done this year: UCL: 1 - No country can have more than 4 teams in UCL. When Real Madrid CF won the UCL and entered the competition as the Seed Number 1, they pushed the fourth Spanish team into UEFA Cup. This caused one less entry for the Qualification Round 3 Seeds. This place was filled with Switzerland champion. 2 - Moving one team from the Qualification Round 2 to the 3, caused Israel champion to be upgraded to QR2. This also left odd number teams in QR1 and that meant that next champion from Slovenia also upgraded to QR2. UEFA Cup: 1 - Since the Title Holder Galatasaray SK İstanbul qualified to play in the UCL, they caused one less bye for the Round 1 and the Cup winner from Belgium filled this spot. UIC Cup: The adjustments in the UIC is much more complex. They are also explained in another page which can be accessed from the UIC competition page. * - Liechtenstein teams can play only in UEFA Cup, since they have a cup, but no league. San Marino will be accepted for the first time this year. How the teams are selected from each countries: UCL - UEFA Champions League: 1 - The UCL Title Holder is seeded as Seed Number 1 for the whole tournament. 2 - Each country fills the UCL team allocations, selecting the teams from the final standing of the league competition. Team's position in the standings decides the starting round for the competition. * At this point all entries for the UCL are completed. UEFA Cup 3 - If the UEFA Cup Title Holder is not allocated to either UCL, they will be seeded as Seed 1 for the whole tournament. 4 - Countries start filling the UEFA Cup entries starting with the cup representatives. A cup representative is the cup winner of the country. However, if the cup winner has entered the UCL, then the losing cup finalist becomes the cup representative. If both finalists entered the UCL, then the countries will not have a cup representative, but use this entry from the league competition. 5 - After the cup representatives, the entries are filled with the teams from the final league standings. The teams ranked highest in the ranking, but not entered to the UCL are eligible for the UEFA Cup. * At this point all entries for the UEFA Cup are completed. UIC Cup - UEFA Inter-toto Cup 6 - Countries, then fill the entries to the UIC Cup. The fixture for this competition was already drawn. Since the league rankings for most countries are not finalized, the teams are called as Team-1, Team-2, or Team-3. The deadline for naming the teams for this competition is May 30th. Some teams and even some countries don't want to play in this cup, so the teams ranked higher in the leagues may return these entries and lower ranked teams may play.
