	32 countries participated.
	Some organisational changes were done.
	The host country for the finals was selected before the competition began,
	instead of selecting from one of the semi-finalist countries.
	The finals were being played at the host country with eight teams instead of
	four. The host country qualified automatically as in the World Cup.
	31 country played the First Round in seven groups in a league format.
	Group winners qualified to the Finals.
	The eight finalist teams are divided into two groups and groups played a
	Final Round in a league format, instead of cup format games of quarter-finals
	and semi-finals. The Winners of the Final Groups played for the European
	Championship and the runners-up played the third place game.
	The host country was Italy.
