                                                                Melodies of the Heart

                                           Introduction

I have been writing poetry ever since I was in grade school. My passion was to sit at my desk and dream about fairytale princesses and about true romance. In elementary school I turned in many different poems about animals, love, and all of life’s intangible ideals.  My teachers really enjoyed all my poems.  It was not until high school that I really began to build quite a menagerie of poems. In sophomore year I took a course in poetry writing. I truly loved it! My teacher, Mr.  Robert Catanzaro said I had potential. He taught me many literary techniques and styles.

Poetry is how your heart perceives the world through personal observations and how you put your feelings and personal observations on paper.  Poetry is like a photograph of life. Poetry captures all the panoramic aspects of life into a still portrait.  The poet, like the photographer, is skilled in the knowledge of how to take the best angles or shots to be able to turn them into a stunning photograph. The difference between a poet and a photographer is that the photographer is a skillful observer who works with chemicals, cameras and negatives, and the poet works with paper and pen.  The poet, like the photographer is a skillful observer and is knowledgeable in obtaining the right words to produce the right ideas.

Poetry is also like a great painting.  The artist puts many squiggles on canvas with his palette.  At first one sees only a series of lines and squiggles, yet when the artist is finished one sees a true work of art. Like the artist who works in oils and canvas, the poet is able to take this word and that word and weave them together into a spectacular poem.

I mostly write about love in all its’ many ways and styles. Love is one emotion I  take quite figuratively. Love is the eternal flame of life, as I see it.  One of my favorite plays by Shakespear is Romeo and Juliet. That Shakespearean play inspired me to write many poems about the tragedies of love.  I also write about God and the human soul.  I believe that a person’s soul is a very important thing and I have the conviction that good always triumphs over evil.
Being a Catholic has really given me a great understanding about life’s mysteries.  I am a very methodical individual.  I like to meditate and analyze and ponder about many philosophical issues.  This, too, has helped me produce many of my poems.  I hope that my poems inspire and delight everyone that reads them.  It is my intention of entertaining and enlightening my audience.

True Love

Love was born of innocence
Whose only begotten seed
Was sown exclusively
In heaven’s garden.

Love is a luminescent star,
Dazzling in shining splendor.
Love is bright...its shining splendor leaves one in awe.
Love abides by its own law.
Love governs with equity...
It holds no boundaries.
Love is not grudging nor holds rancor.
When love is injured, love does pardon.
Love is slow to anger
And quick to embrace.
Love is the flame
That warms the heart with joy.

Two Hearts Upon An Arrow

Two hearts upon an arrow
Pierced by Cupid, aches with passion
And pulsates with romance;

As roses bloom in Nature’s garden,
Enhancing the earth with beauty
So love enhances the soul
With tenderness and divine ardor;

Yet, alas, as roses must thorns have,
So, too, love has its sorrow,
Which cuts deep and inflicts deep wounds upon the heart.
Yet love is bold!
It can endure
A thousand billion scorns.
Love is made of God’s own substance..
It heals all wounds and bitterness.
Two hearts upon that arrow,
Unite to multiply
For it is said that out of two shall spring forth...One!

If  You Truly Love Me

Kiss me, Valentine,
Be dear and true to my heart.
Wine and dine my soul, love
With tenderness and words of true Amor;

Never mind the eloquence.
Satin sheets will never do.
Neither caviar nor diamonds
Can buy my heart...
Just a loving heart that’s true
Will open my soul unto you;

Let me see your soul, dear,
Does it reflect your love, sincere?
Are your words true or are they true lies?
Beware, love...for I can see right through you
Your eyes are the mirror image of your soul.
Just promise me a lifetime of faith and loyalty.
Be my honored guest, love.
My soul true love pledges thee....
If you truly love me.
So if you value life, dear
As you say you value me
Procure to make my heart content..
Or else, love...you can leave.

Love's Eternal Holiday

It is  the morning of love’s eternal holiday.
Let us celebrate romance
In grand, sophisticated style;
In February , birds do mate,
Likewise, let us congregate.

My heart, like the precious rose opens petal by petal
Unto you, my heart unfolds.
Dearest Valentine, you are a god to me.
Today I venerate your shrine
With kisses and tender sighs of delight.
Your eyes, like two of the finest stars in heaven shine,
And goes about its orbits!
Let’s appease our appetites with love’s ferocious kiss.
Like Adam’s fatal fruit of passion,
Let’s devour each other’s soul.
Let me touch your velvety flesh, my sweet Amor,
and brush my hand against your chestnut hair.
Let me see your flawless-dimpled smile
Which takes my breath away!

Weekends in Chicago

Weekends in Chicago,
Babe, I have to know,
Am I still your honey,
Or is there someone new?

All these nights I sit alone
And my thoughts race on to those weekends in Chicago
When our love was warm and true...
Those lovely nights of passion
Just me and you.

I try to sleep but when I try
Images of you and I
tantalize my mind.
I often wonder where our love has gone...
Why did we let it slide?
We were very close and deep in love..
We loved each other so much,
So why have we lost touch?
It’s so bitter cold outside.
There is snow and rain,
But when I think of you
For a moment there is sunshine.
Nothing can obliterate this excruciating pain.
I have got to know for certain...
Am I still your honey....or is there someone new?

Puissance of Love

The power of love is so bold
That no mare mortal can break its chain.
Love is the strongest emotion in the universe.
Love never goes out of style.
Love is eternal.
It is very assiduous.
Love is not prejudice.
Love is not blind, nor is it condescending ...
Love is the greatest gift of all!

CyberLinks

Two distinct Continents unite
By invisible fingers that carry two diverse cultures through
The realm of cyberspace.
In this modern age
Of microchips and electronic gadgets galore,
It is quite amazing what can be achieved
In such a short amount of time and space;
A thousand years ago today
No one could imagine
A small world could come together
By a small electronic device
Called E-mail.
Now with the aid of this modern miracle
East could now meet West.
In yesterday’s archaic world
The postman was a Neanderthal
As compared to this modern beauty
By just writing few lines of cyber text
You can send a message half across the globe
And in an instant East meets West...
So advanced is this technology
That what used to take a lifetime

Can now be accomplished with a few keystrokes and a click of the mouse.
What’s next, electric sex?

My Heart Lies Bleeding

My heart is pierced by Cupid’ s arrow.
I lie bleeding here
In this puddle of blood and tears and sorrow...
Between life and death’s doorway;
I’ll die, dear heart
If not today, well, then tomorrow...
If you leave me here in agony;
Please be my surgeon.
This sting is more than I can bear.
Won’t you please put a Band-Aid
On this wounded heart o mine?
It was such a cruel wound
On the morning of St. Valentine
Cupid pierced my with his poisoned dart
And opened up a gash within my heart
That only you can heal.
Please be my physician, Love
I have complete faith in you!

Love's Spirit

Love’s Spirit proceeds the bride and groom,
As it lingers there, a phantom of sweetness.
With sweet aloes and precious myrrh
It fills the wedding chambers
With the essence and aroma of Paradise.
Fair the true beauty of such a tender bride
As her father unveils the true essence of innocence
Before men’s eyes.
The gallant young groom cannot help hide
His desire to set his hands upon his well-earned prize.

What a precious sight this is,
When before God’s angels and mens’ view
The couple utter their ‘I do’s’
Oh, what a lovely token of true love..
Love that can only be conceived by God above.

Melodies of the Heart

My heart breaks out
Into a song and dance
When it hears the rhythmic music of romance,
Orchestrated by Heaven’s Golden Choir
With utmost precision.
When love and joy enters the heart
And your heart skips in perfect rhythm
At the sounds of the harp and violins
Your heart sings to the tune
Of true love and sweet passion.
There is much joy and cadence!
When love sings its merry melodies
Your soul is swayed and carried away
By some rhythmic pattern
And you can’t help but to stop and listen
To the sweet melodies of the heart.

Bon Appetite, Mon Cheri

Love, you are truly a delicacy!
You were created by a divine master chef in Heaven!
You are truly magnifique!
Your lips are two maraschino cherries,
Dipped in luscious caramel.
Your cheeks are two puffed pastries...
You are a confection fantasy.
Dearest Valentine
Come into my world!
Let me sample you..
You are my favorite morsel.
Satisfy my taste buds with your sweetness
And awaken all my senses!

Oh, My Little Chocolate Soldier Boy!

Oh, my little chocolate soldier boy!
You bring me such delight!
Your silver blue foil uniform
Gives me such a thrill of joy!
Your golden brown tresses of milk chocolate
Curl underneath your helmet.
You are truly a work of culinary art!
Your chest is finely chiseled
With the utmost care!
Oh, you are so appealing
You are appetizingly delicious!
You make my mouth water
And my heart to melt!

You are brave indeed!
You stand guard over me
To guard my steps through the night.
At ease, soldier boy!
I am your commanding officer.
Let me award you the Purple Heart medal for bravery...
For I’ll always remember
My sweet little chocolate soldier boy
Who would lay down his life for my safety

Tea Cozy

A crocheted table cloth was spread
Over a finely walnut-colored table.
The cloth sparkled with gilded thread.

On the Stove a lovely song
Penetrated the kitchen with its' melody
The water danced in rhythm as it gaily sung along

Miss Mary set the cups and saucers ceremoniously
Taking dire care
To match the china for this Special Afternoon Ceremony

Silence did a great  job of cutting the Tea cakes and pastries,
And the sugar bowl and milk pitcher sat quietly in the midst
While The Teapot bowed a timid bow at the Grand Tea Cake from Sal's Bakery

At half past four the Master of the house came punctually
With a bouquet of roses in hand
And a present for the Mistress Mary

Taking a seat, She, with outstretched hands did pour
A cup of hot freshly brewed tea
and served fresh cake and crumpets to her paramour.

A Craving For Passion's Fruit

Ripe and fresh off the vine,
Succulently moist! Divine!
Juices flowing....flesh so tender...
Wet's my appetite, stirs my hunger!
Seducing me so wildly
Enticing all my senses!
In anticipation
My body, ravenous for instant satisfaction,
Craves the Sweet Fruit with a ferocious passion!

Love's Purple Rose

Darling,
I give you passion's purple-petaled rose,
Wildly wet with morning's dew
Sweetly scented to delight your gracious nose;
Press this purpled-petaled rose, Dear
Against your bossom..
As a loving token and souvenire
Of a love deep and moist that will forever blossom.

Midnight Fantasy

Honey,
Let me dazzle you with pleasure.
Surrender all your desires and expectations
Exclusively to me..
Let me be your midnight fantasy!

Let me build an ideal place
For you and me..
Where we can fulfill all our dreams of deep intimacy.
Honey,
Whenever I think of you,
It sparks a fire within the contours of my heart
That lights a candle within my soul
Whose flame twinkles like the farthest star..
That’s how special to me you are!
Babe..
If I could summon up one word to describe our passion..
It would be..incandescent!
Let me strip you of all your daily apprehensions
Place yourself under my care.
I will take you places where you have never been before.
I will take you in my arms forever
and never ever let you go.

Marriage of Souls

Two souls sharing one Destiny,
Sharing the same Cosmic Dream..
Two hearts,
Beating in unison and harmony,
Pumping the same Love between;
Two sets of eyes
Looking at the World through the same lens...
Turning the mundane grey images of life into a
colorful paradise;
Two sets of hands
Holding each other tight,
uplifting one another
Throughout Life's many adversities and plights;
Two separate entities...
Joined and bound;
Two players coming together
Forming a team,
Trying to build a Life of joy and beauty
Out of the love they've found.
