The Predacons are a group of animal-based Decepticons. They consist of
Razorclaw (leader,lion/robot), Rampage (tiger/robot), Headstrong
(rhinoceros/robot), Tantrum (bull/robot), Divebomb (eagle/robot). They
combine to form the gestalt Predaking. Predaking has, among the
gestalts, the best reflexes. Predaking has no known weaknesses.
Believing that Megatron's increasing instability would damage the
Decepticon cause, Shockwave ordered the Predacons to take on
Earthen-based forms and destroy Megatron. The Predacons, disguised as
Autobots, attacked Megatron, but despite forming Predaking, they failed
to kill him.
The Predacons went on to serve under Ratbat, helping him to track down
the Throttlebots and attacking both the Autobots and Scorponok's
Decepticons. During their fight with the Underbase-powered Starscream,
the Predacons were deactivated. Tantrum was later demolished after being
rammed and shot up by Optimus Prime, and Razorclaw was torn apart by the
new Decepticon warrior Leadfoot shortly before the arrival of the Swarm.
One of the groups of Transformers who peacefully inhabit the planet
Cybertron, descended from the Decepticons. A group of criminal
Predacons, led by Megatron (no relation to the Decepticon of the same
name), who transforms from robot to tyrannosaurus, fight for control of
the mystery planet they are presently trapped on. Only the criminal
Predacons have been seen so far. They consist of Megatron, Scorponok,
Terrorsaur, Blackarachnia, Tarantulas, Waspinator, and Inferno. Descended from the Decepticons following the end of the Great War, the
Predacons continued to coexist with the Maximals on the planet Cybertron.
At least one faction, unhappy with the state of affairs on the planet,
sought to obtain more power for themselves.
They stole a golden disk, which contained directions for navigating to
the planet Earth, said to be abundant in energon. However, upon takeoff,
they were pursued by the Maximal ship Axalon, which had been notified of
the theft. Using the information stored on the disk, the Predacon
criminals used their transwarp device, which allowed them to travel
through time as well as space. In the midst of the ensuing battle, the
two ships crash-landed, presumably at their intended destination. Upon
landing, it became obvious that the planet's attributes, while including
extreme energon resources, did not match that of Earth.
Megatron ordered the ship to create new bodies for them, which would allow them to survive the outrageously high energon levels on the
planet. Shortly thereafter, he was challenged by Dinobot, one of his
troops. Instead of fighting, he allowed his subordinate Scorponok to
ambush Dinobot, and expelled Dinobot from the Predacon group. This
action left four members and indirectly gave the Maximals their fourth
member.
The Predacons hatched many schemes in their attempts to either destroy the Maximals or gather energon, but most did not go very well. They successfully stole the protoform that became Blackarachnia, and also
obtained Inferno. But rather than gain the upper hand, they have
consistently displayed a lack of fighting ability (with the exception of
Blackarachnia) and an unwillingness to cooperate with one another.
