Jewish Apple Cake

3 c flour
3/4 c sugar
1 c brown sugar
1 tsp baking soda
1 1/2 tsp apple pie spice
3/4 tsp salt
1 c oil
1/2 c orange juice
2 tsp vanilla
3 lg eggs
2 c chopped apples

add all ingredients except apples in mixer
mix on med till blended
add apples and mix again
pour batter into greased and floured 10 - 12 c bunt pan
bake at 350* for 1 hour and 15 mins

Rum sauce

2 c siffted 10x sugar
2 T soft butter
2-3 T milk
1 t all spice
1 T rum

i've made several versions of this cake

  • Pumpkin
    replace the apples with
    2 c pumpkin pruee
    replace the spices with
    pumpkin pie spice

  • Carrot Cake
    replace apples with
    2 c shredded carrots
    1 c rasins
    1 c chunked pineapple

  • Cream Cheese Frosting
    8 oz cream cheese
    2 c shiffted 10x Suger
    1/2 c soft butter
    2 - 3 T milk
